Turnaer is an epesse he claimed for himself in newly established Imladris , after the deaths of his parents and loss of their Eregion home, it aproximately translates as master of lament, a take from his mother-name Turmallen -master of gold- that foresaw his  jewelsmith talent. No one butclose friends from his childhood would call him by his father-name Pinnaro (little flame).

His mother was called Narwen or Nariel in her youth, for her flame-color reddish hair and her fiery temper both. Turnaer's father also had for his wife the endearing modified name Nairawen (his Sun)

His father was called Calanaro (shining flame) or Mortanaro (dark ash fire) later in life after the loss of his beloved. He was a metal crafter of both weapons and armor with great interest in adding beauty to their practical features, an artist at heart shaping his mastery to be useful to his kin in the fight and wander days that were given to them. 

Turnaer lives in Imladris, a jewel smith by choice and smith of anything that needs repaired if needed, joining the guarding of Imladris as needed, as well as the incursions into Eregion where some attempts were made to reclaim if not really rebuild some old settlements, like the one where his parents lived, a hill side village built on one of the minor affluents of the Glanduin river, on a higher and north-eastern location than Ost-in-Edhil, quite close to the area of Hollin Gate.   

Since Vanimar, a house built around noldor survivors of Gondolin,  shares much of his ancestry and intesests, he found himself closer to them over the years ending up with naturally joining their Order of Hammer, the black hauberk giving him again a lost feel of family and apartenence that he thougth long lost.

Note: The ruins of the small noldorin mountain village of Vâdalotsë (pathflower) are somewhere east of Echad Dunnan, near a spring coming  out of the mountain side close to vestiges of naugrim landmarks from the glory days of Khazad Dum
