His story begins like most of his kind, with axe in the upper vales of the Anduin river that lay in Rhovanion or that Wilderland as commonly known. His strength, like many other skin-changers was set to that great task of their people. To defend the pass between Dale and Rivendell, to keep open the Highpass and the Fjord of Carrack. 

There he dwelled, imposing the Beorning's order upon that domain and thundering fear into the servants of the enemy with might of arm and roar of bear, the pass to this day is kept safe and Baldune, like many, was one who collected the high price from merchant dwarves and traders of Dale who would journey in their domain. But with the caravans....came wild tales from beyond the misty mountains...

Dwarves, drunk with ale and in fire's light told of the folk beyond and the issues that ailed them. Stories of rumor and gold, Treasure and glory, and soon Baldune's gaze rested beyond the mountain's peaks. With the call of the brown wizard and darkness spreading across the land, Baldune took his great axe and set to the west to make great his father's name and the name of all his kind.
