Outward Appearance

Aislif is a tall and very slender woman. Curious that she lifts the smithing hammer like a man. Her red hair is adorned with many braids, sometimes plain, sometimes lavishly woven into form. Freckles are all over her pretty face, while a scar is running down over her cheek from her right eye, something she finds as flaw on herself.

Aislif wears often dark clothes; gray, brown and black she says fit her best, but usually she can be seen in her smithing apron, standing at a forge, together with her daughter Jare.

Background

Aislif was born as second child of Asmund and Ingild. Her childhood was hard in the village of Firnhjall, in the north-east of Esgaroth. The community was hardly hundred souls strong and the paths to the bigger cities were not lightly tread.
Although Asmund was the Thane to one of the Jarl that made the councel of Esgaroth, so did the family not enjoy any real advantages in regard to the other people. The long-house in which they lived was small and had hardly enough space for Aislif and her brother Blafjoll.
Ingild taught her daughter to sing and weave, to play the lute and how to cook, while Blafjoll was taken by Asmund into the service of a soldier.
To the wonder of everyone it turned out that Blafjoll became against his father's wish one of the fishermen and Aislif began to handle steel in the forges of her father, in which a scale of the dragon Smaug let the fires burn hotter than in any normal forge - at least so they say. It was in the end Aislif's steel with which the soldiers of Firnhjall were equipped and what was send even to Esgaroth.
At the age of nine-teen winters she married the guardsman Kjeld, moved into his house and one year later, bore him a healthy and beautiful daughter, who they named Jare.
In the coming four years, Aislif took up the role of a shield-maiden next to her smithing. Kjeld wanted her to be able to defend herself and Jare, should he not be there.
Raiders however put her luck to an end.
Blafjoll brought both their father Asmund and Kjeld back. But they had gone to their ancestors. Ingild killed herself through the loss of her husband and left Blafjoll and Aislif back alone. Without their father and Kjeld, life became harder, so hard even, that their existance was brought to danger.
So the siblings decided to leave Firnhjall in search for an opportunty to live somewhere else. Their way led them into the Bree-Lands, where Blafjoll works at the homes of the people in order to repair them and Aislif forges tools, armour and swords, in order to earn enough coin to offer her daughter all what she needs.
