Vesendë is a hauntingly beautiful Eldar of mixed Noldor and Lindar decent. This mixed heritage gifted her hair dark as the night with strands of silver shot through, and it is often kept long and loose. Her skin is milky white and unblemished by the ages, and her eyes are bright and blue as the sea in midday. In reverence to Elentári, Vesëndë is often seen wearing robes and gowns made from black or violet silk, and upon them pearls and light jewels, as though stars in the night sky of her attire, which earned her the nickname Elentindómë ("Twilight Star")

Background

Vesendë was born during the Noontide of Valinor, only months after the Eldar completed their Great Journey. Her mother was of the Ñoldor, and her father a Teleri. While they traveled with the Ñoldor, her father felt guilt leaving his kin and his kings, but could not deny his wife and unborn child the light of Valinor, and so they separated.

Vesendë was named Tyelpëseldë ("Silver Daughter") by her mother, as she was born when the light of Telperion was at its brightest cycle, and her dark Ñoldorin hair bore strands of Telerin silver throughout. She was born on Tol Eressea and, after her mother moved the two to Tirion upon its completion (and arrival of the remaining Lindar) she kept a home on the eastern coast of the isle to see the stars and remain close to her fathers people.

While living in Valinor Vesendë found great happiness exploring the Holy Land, and made it a personal goal to know all the knowledge Aman had to offer. Vesendë has explored most all places the light of the Trees touched, and spent much time learning from the Ainur in their domains. Most of all places she visited was Taniquetil, as she spent many years as a student of the Maiar Ilmarë, handmaiden to Varda. It was from Ilmarë that she learned to summon the light of the stars to heal the wounds of mind and body, a skill she puts to use to this day.

During these visits to Taniquetil she met and fell in love with Calwë, a Vanyar who served under Ilmare, and with him she bore fraternal twins; a girl Alyillë and Alyndo ("Fair Daughter" and "Fair Son"). It was Calwë who gifted her the epessë of Vesendë ("Wife of my Heart"), a name she would be known by ever after. The family lived in a small glen under Taniquetil, and they knew bliss until the darkening of Valinor. Vesendë's children were young and hot tempered and joined Fëanor and participated in the Kinslaying at Alqualondë. Vesendë understood her childrens anger, even feeling urged to action herself, but could not condone the slaying of the Falmari, whom their mother was half.

Vesendë and Calwë decided to join Fingolfin and his host of Ñoldor to cross the Helcaraxë in to Middle-Earth, desperate to save their children from Morgoth and themselves, as Vesendë knew they would almost certainly die in the wars to come. The pair made it quite far, though Calwë felt heavy with grief for the death of the Trees and the loss of his children, and his will was not so strong as Vesendë's, and so in the Helcaraxë he perished.

Now in Middle-Earth with her family lost, she searched for her children for many years to no avail, instead finding a sense of purpose healing her kindred wounded in the battles against Morgoth. Though she did not find her children, she did discover her estranged father, now a Sindar living in Doriath. As Ñoldor were not permitted to live in Doriath, the pair moved to Ossiriand for the rest of the First Age. Due to his absence, Vesende was without a father name until she rediscovered her father, and upon learning of his daughters story to save his grandchildren, he named her Emelthalien ("Brave mother").

Vesendë's home was fortunate enough to survive the War of Wrath, though her father chose to join the fighting, and was lost. Vesende took in survivors of the destruction, and it was by this chance she stumbled upon her daughter. Alyillë explained after they had stolen the Falmari ships, their's was destroyed by the waves, and the pair washed upon the shore where Alyndo died soon after. Though she was devestated, Vesende still rejoiced to find her daughter, though even with her long mission completed she had come to love Middle-Earth, and could not abandon it while the Eldar remained.

She remained in the service of High King Gil-Galad for many years as a healer and librarian, using the light of Elentari to heal those hurt in the battles against Sauron. She was part of Elronds group to help defend Eregion during Saurons attack, though the group was pushed back and eventually established Imladris. Vesendë remained for some years to help as she could, but ultimately returned to Lindon and resumed her usual duties. During the Battle of the Last Alliance, Vesendë was stationed in Minas Tirith. While she had never been unfriendly to Man during her life, she often avoided forming relationships beyond acquaintance knowing that a dear human friend would mark her for the rest of her eternity. But in Minas Tirith she came to know the race of Man face to face, and came to deeply admire and respect them, and though she has been saddened by the loss of dear human friends since she still remembers them with fondness.

Now, as the elves fade from Middle-earth and the weight of the ages weighs on Vesendë, she has come to love the people of Middle-Earth and believes that the fate of Arda is tied to Middle-Earth, and must see it safe before she may return to Valinor.
