Gryffudd Ap Glyndwr is fourth son of the Brenin of the Eryr-Luth, the Eagle clan that guard the South Gap against the hated Forgoil. The prince is in his forties, his face scarless, but the hard lines won from war and time are as deep. The honey-brown eyes, set in wide, heavy-lidded sockets, watch more than they reveal. Gashes from the sword and lash creep up his shoulders and the back of his neck, but are hidden by long, twisted threads of steel-grey and brown. A fir-green cloak, draped like a sash across him, is pinned to his shoulder with a silver penannular brooch faceted with gilding and glass. He keeps a falchion at his hip, a peculiar thing, heavier than the agile blades better known by his people and more wieldy than their favored spears. A piece of polished wood, no bigger than a chestnut, hangs from a silver chain around his neck.
