Background

Araithil Thanduil was born long after the fall of the Northern Kingdoms. On 19th day of the Afteryule on the year 2968 of The Third Age as a descendant of the Legendary bloodline of Numenor. Others of his kind were already scattered around the lands of Eriador and that of Dol Amroth and Minas Tirith. There, in the Tier of Noblemen in Minas Tirith the story of Thanduils begins. There in a military family house lived the family of soldiers. It was also where Gwathrian, the noble scholar of the White City and Neaerhad Thanduil, the Captain of Gondor decided to marry each other. Not long after the decission they approached the Steward to fullfill their marriage, settle in and give birth to their sons Araithil and Nethillon. The boys remained hidden from any danger until Araithil reached the age of ten. Naerhad was waiting for the right moment to teach the swordplay to his son, keeping him safe from any harm that may come. From his early years Araithil was trained and learned how to fight with various weapons. He mastered using of the shortsword and shield. The years passed and Araithil was a proud warrior of Osgiliath, not long after creating his own family as he married his love and she gave him a son, Aranor. They lived happily ever after untilthe first days of the Spring. Araithil has joined the force that stationed in Osgiliath and was meant to hold it against the enemy at any cost. He and his friend decided to part their ways with the main force at the word of their captain and later on were meant to split their ways and patrol the city. Then he heard the sounds of struggle behind. Araithil ran back to find out what is happening. He found his friend holding off a big band of orcs that were overwhelming him. "Araithil, we are overrun! Run, warn the others!" - he heard his friend's shouting in his direction. He turned and started to run towards the main force of Gondorian warriors. Screaming and sounds of fighting were all that he was hearing during his way. He got the reinforcements but his friend was nowhere to be seen. The orcs had reached them not long after he joined them. Araithil, worried about his friend fought bravely against the enemies. The warriors were holding the enemies for as long as they could. Anyway, their position was soon overrun by the foes.Araithil kept fighting his way back to the spot where he parted his ways with his friend, he decided to search for him, as he has not returned. Araithil still had hope as he knew that he is a really strong person. He found him not long after that, lying on the ground, wounded. With three orcs surrounding him. Araithil ran to aid him, trying to fight off the orcs. As they fell, Araithil leaned down to his friend to check on him. He looked at Araithil "Go, help them. It's... too late for me... Araithil". He said to him. "I'm not leaving you here." Araithil then responded and began to carry him away from the battlefield. "Fall back! Retreat! Retreat!" - the shouts of the remaining soldiers sounded in his ears. They reached the Great Bridge and joined the retreating survivors. Then, Araithil felt something sharp in his chest as one od the dying orcs pierced him with his blade. He looked ahead, seeing all of his unit dead. He fell to his knees but couldn't just give up. He kept crawling out of the city. Just to save himself and his friend. As they reached the main gate he glanced at his friend, now unconscious. He leaned to him finding out that he didn't make it. He let out a deep, pained moan. His vision started to blur as he felt a strong arm lifting him up. That was the last thing he has seen. At the same time band of enemies has reached his small house on Pelennor fields, reaching his family present in here. He woke up several days later, bedridden. Only to find out that his family was slain while he was gone. Araithil's wounds healed several months later, but he never returned to be the man he used to be. Last bit of happiness was brought to him by a child, that he adopted after meeting him in the barracks of the Battalion. Now, he begins a new life as both soldier and a father.
