Background
Year 1697 of the second age: In the war between Sauron and the elves, Eregion is laid to waste and Lord Celebrimbor killed. Elrond retreats with the remnant of the Noldor and founds the refuge of Imladris. Under his protection travel two young but gifted pupils of Celebrimbor.
The young elven maiden Nármirë was a beauty and very skilled in the creation of powerful weapons. What made her even more special was her great passion and powers with fire. The air around her used to vibrate with energy. Though she was loved dearly she was also a constant worry for the wise.
Her companion, Curuquendil, was wise beyond his years. There is told he never forgot a single word he read or heard. He read more than any other for his books and scrolls were his life.
Year 1055 of the third age: A shadow is falling over Greenwood. Elrond calls a group of 5 historians together to collect and preserve the wisdom of the Elves.
From far east a descended of the Avari arrived and joined the group of Curuquendil, Nármirë and an elf from Greenwood. The last to complete the group was Fëalin, a descended from the Teleri who were abandoned on their travel to the west. He was a gentle soul, very skilled in healing those who were hurt in body or soul, both by his huge knowledge of herbs as well as with his song.
Between the five there existed a rare friendship. Curuquendil had come to love Nármirë but her splendor and power had prevented him to share his feelings.
The story is told that when Fëalin and Nármirë met time itself stood still and after that they were never seen separate again till fate interfered. Fëalin was blond, loved water and song. Nármirë dark as the Noldor and lived through fire and passion. As unlikely the two were together they together made a unity that could weather the darkest of times. Fëalin cured her restlessness, brought her balance and from then on an aura of serenity and wisdom surrounded her. When, during their many travels, he ever got in danger her powers enhanced and nothing could stop her in protecting him.
Though Curuquendil was hurt his love for them both made him able to handle it. He more than ever started to live for his studies.
144 years ago a situation arose in Mirkwood which needed the immediate study of the 5 friends. This time Nármirë could not join for she was heavy with their first child. For the first time the two lovers were separated and since Curuquendil was less needed on this travel he decided to stay with her. The mission encountered many setbacks and the time of birth drew near. In a hurry to get back to Imladris in time, the three friends walked into a trap set by orcs and got killed.
Nármirë is said to have gone into early delivery that same moment. A great sadness overflowed her and the birth was heavy. She knew in her heart. When the message of the disaster reached her she kissed her newborn daughter and gave her the name her Fëalin had picked for her: Lindolwing. She gave her daughter to Curuquendil and begged him to take good care for her. Seeing the life-flow steaming out of his love, he made the promise in despair. She closed her eyes to never open them again. She could not live without her love.
Curuquendil took in Lindolwing as his love had asked him. As the little maiden grew, she reminded him more and more of the friends he had lost. His heart started to long to travel west, but his promise forced him to stay in Imladris. He became a broken man who hardly spoke, and he lost all contact with the needs of the little girl.
As far as Lindolwings memories go back, she was forced to study day and night. To the frustration of her guardian all scrolls and books she got just stayed empty texts. Nothing of the many tales came to life for her, except that of her parents of which she felt the blame. She just was not able to remember any of them for long. When she managed to sneak out from under his watchful eyes, she went sitting next to the streams and waterfalls and dreamt away. One day she returned home asking who had made the music in the water only to find out nobody she knew could hear it. To her it was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard, and it spoke of promises, unknown futures and lands. It filled her with dreams and longings.
When Lindolwing reached her 110th birthday as humans count it, Curuquendil decided it was time for them to travel west. Their goodbyes to Imladris were for her the first real contact with the elven society. She felt overwhelmed by all the talking and had no clue how to respond to the many social gestures. Elrond, noticing the maidens problem, took Curuquendil aside for a long talk. Though nobody knows what Elrond said to him, Curuquendil returned from that talk as a changed man.
They set out for the travel with just the two of them. For Lindolwing it was a journey of miracles. Every flower, every leaf and even small stones could make her stop to admire it. She was full of questions and Curuquendil allowed them to stop and explained from his vast knowledge. To their surprise they found out that she was able to learn after all, and quickly too. All she had missed was the experience, the ability to touch and feel, the possibility to make tales come to life. He started to enjoy teaching her about the world surrounding them and she loved to learn. She learnt the herbs and their use, she learnt about the ruins along the road and she learnt about the creatures roaming the lands. She found that many animals, both tame and wild, got attracted to her and many became her friends.
The journey west took years due to all those stops. They started to meet some people on the roads, both humans, dwarves and even occasionally an elf. Needless to say she got fascinated by them all. While Lindolwing started to live, the pull at Curuquendils heart became stronger. After passing Amon sul his pace became quicker. Yet again fate had another surprise for them.
Along the road between Bree and the Shire they walked in the shadow of the woods and there a young hobbit family was attacked by a band of goblins. From the distance Lindolwing could hear the screams of the mother and the crying of the children. An anger arouse in her and with that a power, she did not know she possessed, flowed into her. Words flowed from her mouth, from her hands there came balls of fire and the air around the goblins crackled with lightning. Within just seconds all goblins laid dead and Curuquendil quickly pulled her into the forest. There she laid exhausted for days. All the astonished hobbit family found of their rescuer was a piece of scorched earth where she had stood.
When she woke, she looked in wonder and fear at her hands. Her clothing smelled of fire, her hair was a mess but she wasn't hurt at all. Curuquendil calmed her down and assured her that she would not have these problems in the west and there would be elves to teach her to get in balance. From that night on he was troubled with dreams and visions and started to doubt the wisdom of his decision.
A few day later he caught Lindolwing hiding behind a tree looking at some playing hobbit kids. Their laughing was like music in her ears, their games and songs a statement of unknown freedom.
He saw the longing on her face, the curiosity and the love she felt for the world she was discovering.
Softly he put a hand on her shoulder and looked her in the eyes. Lindolwing still remembers every word he said. "Please forgive me, for I have failed my promise to your mother. I now see that you need more then knowledge to make your spirit grow and flourish. I do need to travel to the west for my heart is weary, but it's not your time. This world is where you should be for a while longer, for it has as much to offer to you as you to it. In this world the name your mother gave you will come to you, when you come into your full power. Ná Elbereth veria le, ná elenath dín síla erin rád o chuil lín"
The next day he took her to the house of Fanna, a well traveled female Hobbit minstrel. She lived there with her adopted daughter Brittelwyn, a human girl she had found along the road after Brittelwyn's parents had been killed. Needless to say, Fanna was frowned upon by many of the other small folk. She was a little bit strange but a very nice woman. No matter how often Lindolwing told her that she was many years older than her, Fanna started to act more and more as Lindolwing's mother. She claimed her daughter needed a sister to show her how the big folk behave. She arranged that Lindolwing could learn farming with one of the best masters the shire had to offer. She went working in the fields during night time for elves were a very uncommon sight there back then.
Though the years were mainly in hiding, they were good years. Slowly Lindolwings confidence built up. When Fanna decided that Brittelwyn was old enough to travel the world, Lindolwing was ready to go her own way as well.
Since then she had many adventures, met many who learned her how to handle her powers and to focus. She found a new family in a small kin. She started to love the world and many of its inhabitants and she longed to make it a safer place for families and friends to live in.
Although she became more and more comfortable with most races she still did not have many dealings with elves.
She cares a lot for her friends and is very loyal to them. True love and a partner for life she judged not for her though, at least not in these parts of the world. The world is too dangerous and allowing love she felt was foolishness. She did not want to end up like her mother, instead she wanted to clear the evil that killed her parents.
Some time ago she met Ezial who, very easily, managed to break through all her defenses. Though she even tried to deny it to herself for a while, she now has to admit she fell in love with him. He made her reconsider everything she had believed in and awoke the longing to also understand and socialize with her own kind.
