She is a mystery.  She neither knows her parents nor her real name.  She was adopted as a baby into an Elven family as elves, who love children and rarely have any born to them, have soft spots for babies.  Her adoptive parents granted her the Sindarin name Lachlirel, meaning sage of song or music which set her on the path of the minstrel. 

She grew in an unconventional way from other children, knowing not fighting, disease nor struggles... except those of her own creation. She knew she wasn't as good, as pretty, as smart, or as quick as the elves and came to feel unworthy of everything, even her name! Realizing that, she came up with her own name "Adya" as it was a noise of exasperation she had heard her tutors utter often. She keeps her Elven granted name as her surname but does not speak of it easily to others. 

She began to use humor as her strength as it did set her apart from the elves. Slapstick, silly humor always made people smile where dark humor fostered companionship and self-deprecating caused wild bouts of laughter. She finally felt more useful but also demoralized. She was very unlike a great Elven minstrel weaving song and poetry or grace and style and more a jester, surrendering dignity if necessary for a good joke.

With a sad heart, she realized she couldn't stay with the elves forever.  She needed to find her own way, and her own worth as a person. Her adoptive parents wished her their best and blessings as she set out to find adventures where she could feel useful and important.
