Background
Rindar grew up on a small farm in western Rohan together with his two sisters. Their parents were killed by raiding Dunlendings when Rindar was no more than twelve years. The oldest sister, Tilde, took care of her younger siblings and together they managed to run the farm well enough to put food on the table by the end of each day.
Then, a few years later, came the summons. As shadow crept over the lands, more and more men were requested to take up arms. Feeling the need to protect his home, Rindar answered the calling. He was no warrior, but he knew how to swing an axe at a chopping block, and he had used a bow to hunt for game many times. It was only natural that he became an outrider, patrolling the borders of the land.
His service was uneventful most of the time. Sometimes small groups from the hill tribes would cross the river, but they were easy enough to hunt down.
Then the shadow began to grow. Rumors about orcs crossing the border, villages being burnt down faster than they could be rebuilt, innocent people butchered in their sleep.
Together with a small scouting party, Rindar crossed the river Isen to estimate the growing threat from Dunland. But in the treacherous mountain pass they were ambushed. Some were slain, others, Rindar among them, were put in chains and dragged away by the hill men.
Rindar watched his brothers die around him. Some starved to death, some fell victim to the fever, others at the rough treatment of the hill men. After several weeks of torment Rindar managed to flee his captors. Not daring to go south he stumbled around in the wilderness praying for salvation.
A young woman from the hill tribes found him half dead and delusional in the Gravenwood. She brought him back to her hut where she nursed him back to health.
Knowing that the way south was blocked Rindar decided to continue north into the lands of Eriador, for he knew that he would find his kin of the Færende Éored, somewhere in those lands.
