| Outward Appearance | Nince's face shows the signs of his age in its creases and contours, but he stands with the arrogance of a young man. His straight yellow-brown hair recedes in a widow's peak, and is complemented by a meticulously groomed goatee. Nince wears an unhealthy palor, and his eyes are a sickly green. He has a thin and unathletic frame, and (despite his efforts to stand tall and dignified) he often sags under the weight of his enormous traveling bag, which is adorned with all manner of trophies and curios from distant and foreign lands. Nince is never seen without an ivory flask strapped to one hip, a matching pipe strapped to the other, and a walking stick in his hand. |

Background
Jacob "Nince" Larkwol was raised on tales of adventure. He was well-educated in his youth, but when his time was not engaged with pursuits of knowledge, he spent most of his time stuffing his own head with utter nonsense. He adored tales of quests that never happened, and people that never where. Adventures to distant and beautiful lands, wise indivduals privvy to powerful secrets. Nince knew that the tales were mostly false, but he also knew that there must have been at least a sliver of truth to them.
Nince never had any adventures of his own, of course, until he reached his middle age, at which point he was unceremoniously dumped into the role of the traveling adventurer (another story entirely), and he set out to make the best of his lot. He now works to uncover secrets that might bring him power or special knowledge, or to make a name for himself that will last the years. Mostly, though, he just works to make ends meet.
Nince adores duplicity and trickery. He practices it frequently, and respects it deeply in others (when it isn't being used against him). In a similar vein he enjoys using exotic or unconventional words. Whenever he hears a word he doesn't know, he immediately seeks to learn it's meaning and make quick use of it. On occassion, he may even use a word which he does not yet understand, out of eagerness to say it.
Nince's obsession with dishonesty stems mainly from his own insecurities. In his eyes, withholding information or truth from others is a way of excersizing power over them. He enjoys the idea of decieving a person without their knowledge, and the sense of smug superiority it gives him. Likewise, his use of over-long words serves mainly to reassure himself that he knows something others do not.
Nince is physically weak, and not particularly skilled in a fight. He can barely heft a sword, and swinging it is absolutely out of the question. He is somewhat adept with a staff, and often feigns lameness as an excuse to carry a walking stick at all times, but his poor upper-body strength makes it difficult for him to do much damage with it. He has an affection for knives, which are both sharp and light, and keeps a selection of them in his pack, and at least one on his person at all times.
