Glasnir is a young, joyful, shy and kind son of Lórien. He is one quick to laugh and barely capable of feeling hatred at anything that draws breath, with the exception of the servants of the enemy. This elf is anything but impressive. Of average height and lithe build, Glasnir’s features resemble those of the Nandor. He is certainly not counted amongst the most graceful of the Eldar, seeming rather self conscious about himself and his surroundings. As he walks, Glasnir casts furtive glances around, eyes sparkling with curiosity and wonder about every little detail from the landscape and the structures of Imladris.

Background

Being born to a couple of bakers, nothing particularly outstanding was ever expected of Glasnir. Neither great feats of might nor any amazing scholarly achievements. Thus, it was with no small amount of surprise Glasnir’s parents received the news that he wanted to join the military, as an archer of Lórien. Although dubious, they were supportive of his decision, and Glasnir’s days as a recruit were uneventful ones.

It must be noted that his skill with a bow exceeded expectations, even though that hardly says anything where Glasnir is concerned. But, his ability to keep himself out of trouble was nonexistent. He was never the most gracious of the Eldar, and since childhood that quirk was ever present in little everyday occurrences. Naturally, it did not take long for the other recruits to notice this. He became then, particularly renowned amongst the company to which he was assigned. Not because he knew his way with a bow, despite his young age, but because he was a constant source of good laugh.

Glasnir never gave what others thought of him much attention, either because he lived in a world of his own, filled with stories of the heroes and deeds of ages past, or simply because he did not care or was yet oblivious to the ill intentions behind the way he was generally addressed. As a result of his clumsy nature, Glasnir was never deployed, but tasked with other things that would keep him away from anything that could mean the ruin of his company installations. He worked with supplies and minor errands, the time spent under the tutelage of his parents coming to use.

It came to pass, in a day when no one else could be found to attend this important errand, that a particularly expensive bottle of wine found its end at Glasnir’s hand. The bottle crashed harshly against the table of his captain, who should be at the receiving end of the bottle, not the liquid it contained. Needless to say, that the recipient shattered, spilling wine all over the paper work that was upon it, and worst of all, over the captain himself.

This little big mistake seemed to be the end of his career at the army, as he was thenceforth dismissed. News about the incident spread like fire through the ranks of Lórien, and Glasnir’s future seemed to narrow before him.

A couple of days after his dismissal, Glasnir sought solitude at one of the most distant and unused practice ranges. To his surprise the place was occupied on the day by a unit from another company. They seemed to pay him little heed though, and unwilling to go look for someplace else, he started releasing his frustration at the predicament in which he found himself against the targets. One of the soldiers present at the practice field that day, for rather obscure reasons according to the military population of Lórien, took a keen interest on the young archer, challenging him to a trial with the bow. Thinking that the other elf had some mean jest in mind, he accepted, determined to prove himself against him. After a fair and close match, Glasnir won and found, to his utmost surprise, that his opponent was none else but a renowned captain amid the ranks of Lórien. Thus, be it by chance, luck, fate, or a little bit of it all, Glasnir was accepted at another company within the Golden Wood, resolute in meeting the expectations set upon him by his new captain.

A few years had gone by under the service of Lórien when Glasnir was chosen to work as a scout on an assignment, joining a small party headed to Imladris under the leadership of Aicalion. Under leave from the Golden Wood, he now serves Bar-en-Vanimar, more specifically, the Order of the Arrow.
