Background
“I can’t bear to live with this sin anymore… please… love…” as her pale hand found his to hold weakly, Hithndor startled with the cold touch of her skin.
“My sin…” he hardly voiced the words “not yours… “
She just shook her head “We are one… we made a promise… “
“No… “
Her look made him stop his objection and just begged whispering “do not leave me… do not leave us…”
The memory of her daughter made Riknueths’ lips curled up with the shadow of a smile. “Promise me to teach her everything… not to let her fell like we did…“ Her voice lowered “help her to be better than us…”
Reena was born in the lands once called the valley of gold. Although she was just a little child unable to remember those times; she left Lórinand with her father, who became a wanderer after his wife’s life faded away. Most of the time, Hithndor kept her away from the lands of their kin and travelled the lands of middle earth. To fulfill his promise, he taught her everything he knew. Taught her to wield a sword, to write and read, and tried to let her learn about the other races, their way of living, their desires, choices, ambitions…
“Now” he said with an unreadable expression on his face like he had most of the time “Now it is time to walk your own path”
“But Father… “ Reena stood still before him. He, the only consistency in her life, was sending her away, bidding her a farewell.
Hithndor reached out to caress his daughters’ cheek “I always thought you were more like me… but now I can see the same fire burning in your eyes your mother once had”
And at last, after all those years together, Reena saw peace in his eyes…
Hithndor turned and left, without speaking another word. She watched his white sailed ship depart, racing with the clouds, moving swiftly away towards the west. After the ship was out of sight, she turned and gazed at Celondim, just visible above the green hills, pondering for some time, then she looked down, at her hand, at the family ring of the Lafavels’. Her fathers’ words echoed in her mind “You may find others in Imladris, old friends of our family, the Lafavels’”.
