Outward Appearance

Tall and fair like most of the Noldor, Lhosiel carries himself with the grace inherent to all his kin.  His hair is long and thick, dark reddish-gold in tint, and he keeps it pulled away from his sky-blue eyes, flecked with emerald green.  He boasts a corded and strong musculature, honed by long hours spent with forge, field and foe.  Lhosiel is most often clean, yet carries an interesting scent about him: it is a mixture of aging parchment and ink, petrichor and freshly-tilled soil, bold and aromatic pipe-weed, thick and dark coal smoke, occasionally blood and more often than not a layer of dust.  It is rare to find Lhosiel without his twin blades or his favorite longbow, compliments to his well-worn but lovingly maintained armor, storied and beautiful light platemail both supple and strong.  When spending long hours at work or in the saddle, he often trades his armor for a set of sturdy and comfortable robes, comfortable in any weather.  He favors a hood over a helmet when not in the direst of battles, and is almost never without his favorite briarwood pipe and his old warhorn.  Lhosiel most often rides upon a young and spirited bay he calls Thalias, an eager and loyal stallion, courageous and not easily daunted.  The steed is barded in gold and white, a cheerful and pretty design, and is a valuable friend to his far-ranging master.

Background

Born in Nargothrond to a Noldorin father and a Sindarin mother in the late 440's F.A., some of Lhosiel's earliest memories were his family's journey from the great stronghold to the Havens of the Falas, fleeing the wrath of Morgoth.  Both Lhosiel and his father managed to escape the fall of Cirdan's cities on ship, but his mother fell in the defense of Eglarest when the walls fell.  The two Elves remained at the refuge on the Isle of Balar until the War of Wrath saw Morgoth's downfall, and Gil-galad went to found Lindon, whereupon they followed him along with many of their kin.

Lhosiel's father was skilled with the cultivation of the land and the plants, especially flowers, and was happy to teach his craft to his son.  Lhosiel grew up on a small farm near Lindon, and came to love the art of botany, though a sharp intellect and strong curiosity sent him digging through scrolls as often as the dirt.  They remained in peace for a time, but when Sauron's forces came to assault Lindon, both father and son took up sword to protect their home.  Lhosiel survived to see the arrival of the Numenoreans, and the utter defeat of Sauron's forces.  His father did not.  Lhosiel returned to his farm but found the work empty and unfulfilling.  He moved further into Lindon and began pursuing the craft of the warrior, training with the blade and studying the strategies of past wars, as well as taking up the blacksmith's hammer to learn weaponcraft.  In the time before the Downfall of Numenor, Lhosiel became a proficient warrior, a testament to the heritage of his people.

When the Last Alliance of Men and Elves was formed, Lhosiel was proud to march under Gil-galad's banner.  The war was a triumph, but at a heavy cost; Gil-galad, a leader amongst Elves for as long as Lhosiel could remember, did not survive the final battle.  Lhosiel did not return to Lindon, but instead took up residence in Imladris for a time, and soon came to wander throughout Eriador and beyond, seeking ancient ruins and knowledge of the past.  It is a passion that has guided him since, though he frequently finds himself coming to the aid of goodly folk in need, spreading hope where he can.
