Firen was born in Gondor, however he never knew his real parents. His real parents gave him up to a  family friend as soon as he was born to a man named Orodan. His adoptive father was a high-ranking officer in the Gondorian military, and Firen soon grew to admire his adoptive father immensely. Due to this, he begged Orodan to train him in the ways of battle as soon as he was old enough to wield a blade. At age 18, he joined the Gondorian military as a recruit and quickly rose throughout the ranks, achieving the rank of Captain at age 23. He was given honors in his bravery, valor, and fighting ability. He was sometimes called the "Wolf of Gondor" by the other soldiers, because he was known to charge into battle with only the safety of his squadmates on his mind, and not his own.

However, during a battle in the ruins of Ostgiliath, his entire squad was ambushed by orcs. Firen was the only one to escape the carnage, with terrible scars on his back, as well as mental scars from the deaths of his friends. He returned to Minas Tirith, where he begged the Steward of Gondor to allow him to leave to try and find peace for the friends that had died that day. The Steward refused, and told him that he would return to the battle with another squad, and that he would get over his squad's deaths in time. Horrified by this act, a burning passion of hatred of Gondor's Steward awoke inside Firen. Promising himself to never join in war again, he deserted the Gondorian armies and fled to Bree-land, where he remains to this day. However, this doesn't keep him from seeing the faces of his dead brothers-in-arms every night in his nightmares...

Off the battlefield, however, Firen's a pretty easygoing guy. He likes to have a drink with his friends and also enjoys a good fight once in a while. He typically shows up in the Prancing Pony every so often to chat with his friend Barliman and discuss current events.

Firen's not the strongest man in Middle-earth. nor the smartest. He's not the luckiest. He's not the best-looking. His true strength, is his immeasurable courage and cool head. His ability to think calmly in terrible situations makes him a valuable leader. When angered, Firen is impossible to stop in battle. He has only a single weakness: His friends. When his friends are in danger, Firen loses his head. It's the only chink in his armor, and a very exploitable one...
