Born in Duillond to a pair of Sindarin elves, Laerlin has remained in Ered Luin for all of her comparatively-short life. Her name means 'Summersong', and it suits her well, for she is sweet-voiced and joyous of disposition, unhindered by the sorrow that plagues many of her kindred. She is proud to be among the refuge-guardians of Duillond, and when on duty is zealous in her questioning of strangers (though never aggressive). Rarely has she been required to enter into combat to defend her home, save against the occasional rag-tag band of orcs. Through the elves who pass through the refuge on their way to the Grey Havens and thence to the Undying Lands, she has heard tales of the world further east of Ered Luin - yet she sees how heavily the weight of age and hardship rests upon these retreating ones, and thinks it is perhaps for the best that she remain in the contentment of Falathlorn. She is glad to listen, but their way of thought seems alien to her - for their lives in Arda have reached the depths of winter and must soon end, while she is only just blossoming into her summer. When not going about her duties as a sentinel, Laerlin's greatest joys are music, wine, and making things grow. As well as tending the gardens of her family home, she eagerly assists Brethilwen with the vineyard when her help is required, and has taken it upon herself to also look after the neglected gardens of those who travel long and far.
