Lindeman could see the Malledhrim warriors speaking to each other as one of them pointed at something on the river. One of them turned to him, saying "Someone is coming. Is it a friend of yours?"
"No!" exclaimed Lindeman, "why would it be my friend?" He peered onto the water, but all he could see was a tree trunk floating in a strange direction towards the shore. The elves gestured it to come closer, showing their bows. As the trunk approached, Lindeman could see that a man was clinging onto it, using it to keep himself and two large bags afloat.
The man, naked from the waist up, rose to the shore. "Captain!" he shouted to Lindeman in recognisable Bree-land accent. "The leaf-eaters would not let me pass through Lorien!"
Later, Lindeman and his now fully-clothed but still wet-haired herald Culver sat at the campfire exchanging news. "We are now part of the elven Mirkwood assault", Lindeman said. "It is best to play along with that. No one seems willing to discuss the necromancer, but they have slipped that there is a 'Necromancer's Gate' here". Lindeman pointed at his map. "The fortress of Dol Buldur. That is where we should aim to go."
