covered in dust! look at me! Damn Gyth an' her Burnt Man! She gets this idea in the Pony, to go an' see this southerner o'hers... got a funny look in her eyes as she says it... and off she goes and She. Don't. Tell. Bawde. that she's a-going.
Now, i dursen't mind her goin' but she has a head filled with bloody moonbeams and kittens at times, so i goes too, in case anything happens. I ain't meeting no Burnt Man... I seen gyth an' wulfie after they met him... so i gets up on the roof, opens that little window and... there i am, in the attic of the word-hoard house. And iffen they didn't have enough books already, the attic is stuffed full, all dusty and mouldering. Feh.
now i doesn't hear it all, tho' I hears HIM... his voice like...eh well... no matter what his voice is like. gyth plays her tunes for him, and that damn note she plays that sounds like all the mothers and lasses weeping. fair chills the bone it does. Sounded like he was pleased with her... heh.. gyth Golden-hair he called her... feh, wait til Bawde hears that!
And then, he tells her a story... about an island called Numeenor. And how all the Men were strong warriors, about great kings and beautiful ladies that lived for hundreds of years.. i could see it in my head! And he told her about the jealousy of the aelfs, how they stole away some of the Men by ensorcelling 'em, and then drownded Numeenor in the sea with their magic.
How the aelfs had used men through the ages to fight their wars and ordered men about and even sent their aelf maidens to lure them away. Aelves... much much worse than we were thinkin', gave me bad dreams that night... i dursen't know how we will get the Aelf-Wicce ....
