Laiquendi
Before the Sun and Moon arose,
A woodland home my kin had chose,
And singing sweet clear harmonies,
They lived in joy amongst the trees
And long the ages of star shone bright,
In twilight shadows and endless night,
They wrote no word but sang their tales,
And hide their passing in tree bound vales.
But ere before the Sun had risen,
Evil walked, released from prison;
And beasts and demons of untold might,
Plagued the land sent some to flight.
Then war was had with Iron shorn Orc,
With bow and spear was victory bought;
But high the price was freedom true,
Lordship failed would not renew
Laiquendi Elves name none their Lord,
They seek no gems or gold to hoard,
Freedom of thought, freewill held high,
Peace is priced beyond the sky.
And not to open war again they flock,
Though enemies taunt, and scream and mock,
For armies, empires, kings all fall,
Their names forgotten their glory small
But think not that their land is open,
Their valour lost, their spirit broken,
That they quail in fear and hide from view,
Unbidden steps will find the due
In silent shadows, the hunters stalk,
The warden’s watches, as the enemies talk,
The master of beasts and lore confound,
As the warriors blades strike with naught a sound
In tracks they read who passed this way,
Their numbers, arms as clear as day,
The word of beast and tree and plant,
Spoken softy in gentle chant
The Laiquendi foe will fear the dark,
With whispered word and chill remark,
For starlight shines as bright as day,
To those in green who guard the way.
And peace they’ll keep for tree bound vale,
To sing of joy and pleasant tale,
To walk in peace under they sky,
But always hidden from the eye….
