The Missing Company Returns Home

After several months of mystery and turmoil, the company that set forth in search of scattered survivors from last years trade caravan have been sighted passing through the Lone Lands. Has the company succeeded in what they set out to do? Or was their quest folly, only claiming more lives in the search?

In the autumn of last year the trade caravan led by Donhelm Graymare returned to Bree having failed their quest. Civilians and soldiers alike came through the gate side by side tired and defeated, for the failed journey had cost many lives only to discover that the passage south had been blocked.

Rumour has it that the sacrifice of those who gave their lives to protect the civilians haunted Graymare. Some say that many that travelled with the caravan had gone missing, abandoned in the wilderness as the company fled home. Disturbing news of lost friends had been circulating the Prancing Pony suggesting that some may still be alive. It was then that Donhelm decided to rally all those who fought with him in the past and call out for able-bodied recruits to ride with him to search the perilous lands for those who had been left behind.

Several months have passed since the newly formed company left the south gate, surrounded by tearful relations and well-wishers. The company itself according to onlookers was composed of a mixture of soldiers and scoundrels, all of which wore mixed matched armour and mediocre weapons. It was said that the quest they were going on was a fool’s errand, yet recently an ambitious fisherman named Shrigley has reported sighting the missing company passing through the Lone Lands.

“I saw em passin’ over the great bridge near the river!” Shrigley told me, “A small group of mounted men and women, by the looks of em they’d seen better days!”

Could this be the missing company? Have they succeeded in finding those whom they set out to save? Or has this search only resulted in more loss of life? Regardless, this news will certainly provide comfort to the concerned citizen of Bree who have been long awaiting their return.
