The many days of riding were weighing on Jeric and he was looking forward to reaching the shores of Evendim.
Just as the bridge to Tinnudir finally came to their sight, Lindeman suddenly stopped his horse and dismounted.
Jeric stopped beside him and descended from the saddle.
Lindeman said, 'A terrible feeling overcomes me as I see that bridge again'
Turning to Jeric he continued, 'Remember how we first crossed it? In the company of Enirol Greylock.'
Jeric replied, 'Yes... I remember. That was a long time ago'
Lindeman said, 'I feel something terrible may have happened to Master Greylock
since we last saw him in Goblin Town'
Jeric nodded. 'I have had my worries for him as well.'
Lindeman said, 'He never was at ease outside Bree-town, and it now occurs to me that he may have met his end'
Jeric nodded slowly, a sad look coming over his face.
Jeric said, 'He was always a city-dweller. And I noticed something in the Misty Mountains. He mentioned
that his old... band.. had gotten disbanded.'
Lindeman said, 'Is that so? You always knew him better.'
Jeric says, 'He did not speak of it much.. yet he seemed troubled...
Aye, apparently something had happened that disbanded them..
he did not seem at ease after that. I do not know what happened though,
he spoke of it very little, and I never asked more than he would willingly tell'
Lindeman said, 'That is sad. One can question Greylock's judgment and perspective sometimes, but he was also a man of virtue'
Lindeman said, 'He showed courage in battle'
Jeric nodded. 'He did. A master of getting into trouble he was, but also at getting out of it.. and he did have honour.'
Lindeman said, 'He had curiosity and ingenuity'
Jeric said, 'He often said that he wished to redeem himself for his mistakes, and I believe he meant it.'
Lindeman said, 'I am not certain what was ailing him and whether he overcame it at last.
I remember him heading for Ettenmoors from Rivendell, saying, "Captain, I have taken up the good fight'''
Jeric said, 'Yes, I remember, you told me that.'
Lindeman said, 'I can only hope that he did not perish in battle,
but perhaps travelled to some land unknown to us, and may still be found one day'
Jeric nodded. 'I truly hope so as well.. he is a good friend, one of the best I would say.
City-dweller though he was, he always enjoyed our adventures.'
Lindeman walked to edge of the cliff. He took a potion from his bag and
poured its contents to the water below as if scattering ashes. 'Here is to Master Greylock.'
Jeric raised his water skin and took a sip from it.
Jeric said 'Aye, to Master Greylock.'
