An opportunity too good to ignore

It was during one of Atgar’s visits in Bree, for delivering an order of smoked meat to the Prancing Pony, that he stumbled upon one very interesting notice, just next to the stables in Bree’s west gate. The notice was posted on behalf of he Town Council and was concerning Pickdean, a village to the south of Bree.

The notice read:

The Town Council of Bree and its most respected Mayor Graeme Tenderlach, call out to all interested parties to participate in the rebuilding effort in Pickdean village, which was destroyed in the latest war.

Purchasing available properties in the following 3 months will only require token acquisition taxes, to cover for administrative and legal expenses.

For further information or for expressing interest, please visit the Notary in Bree Town Hall.

With the latest war over, called now by some as the War of the Ring, it was time for the Mayor of Bree to call out to wealthy individuals to invest and purchase available properties in Pickdean. As the village was extensively looted and ravaged and its people driven away, a major investment in people, effort and money was required to revive this important trade hub. This would help not only rebuild the village, but also fuel growth in both Bree and Pickdean, and of course facilitate the collection of taxes from trade and economic activity.

A smile formed in Atgar’s face, as he considered the implications of this opportunity. It was due time that his business expanded properly into Bree and the surrounding area, and buying a property at a low price would be a great boon towards that goal.

There was a problem though. Profits and orders have been rising steadily over the past years, but still these could not cover the cost of a property, even with no additional acquisition taxes. Atgar had to bring this matter to his kinsmen in Durin’s Folk and ask for their support.

After expressing his interest in writing and depositing an advance payment, as was requested by the Notary, he departed immediately for Ered Luin to consult the head of Durin’s Folk Trading Company and ask for funding in this endeavor, that could help grow Dwarven influence in the area.
