PART 1
Now here's a tale from history
About two hobbits trapped in Bree
With little food to bake upon their fire
And so they both resolved one day
To head out West; to get away
To leave the town and go to find The Shire
The hobbit lad, whose name was Ned
He knew a long path lay ahead
He said he first would travel there alone
His wife, called Rose, would stay in Bree
And sit there waiting patiently
As Ned set off to find them both a home
He packed up all his grubby bags
With scraps of food, and clothes like rags
And off he set as quickly as he could
He walked all of the afternoon
Alas, the day was gone too soon!
In fading light he went into a wood
Beneath a mighty beechwood tree
He lit a fire to cook his tea
And there he slept as night began to fall
Awoken by a hooting owl
He heard some barking and a howl
And soon he heard more answering the call
Surrounded now by fierce jaws
The snarling wolves with sharpened claws
All wanting tasty hobbit for their tea
But from the fire Ned grabbed a stick
And threw it at the wolves quite quick
And then he swiftly climbed the beechwood tree
And up the tree he stayed all night
Until the wolves all left his sight
Although he kept an eye out like a hawk
But when he started climbing down
He heard an earthy scraping sound
The tree beneath him had began to walk!
Ned's heart did race and skip a beat
As Beechwood roots all moved like feet
And long thin branches waved about like arms
Ned sensed the tree was very strong
And jumped away before too long
Avoiding coming to some dreadful harm
He ran as quickly as he could
To get away from that old wood
He ran into some meadows near there
He thought he could then stop and lie
When he heard growling nearby
And caught a sight of very angry bears
He run until his breath was spent
Until at last he saw a tent
That looked a secret place for him to hide
He jumped inside at such a rate
But realising way too late
A brigand was just sitting there inside!
The brigand grabbed and caught poor Ned
And bashed him roughly on the head
And wrapped alot of bits of string round him
He emptied out Ned's grubby bags
And took his coins and burnt his rags
And Ned then knew his future looked quite grim...
PART 2
The Brigand ate Ned's scraps of food
Which left him in an angry mood
The Brigand much preferred large cuts of meat
He gave poor Ned a nasty scowl
Picked up some stones, and with a growl
He flicked the stones for fun at Ned's small feet
But soon the Brigand got quite bored
He picked up both his club and sword
And then he went outside and walked away
So Ned gave out a little moan
All bound and tied and left alone
With naught for him to eat or drink all day
Ned sat all day and groaned and cried
Until he heard a noise outside
He shivered from his head down to his toes
Ned cried "The Brigand's back for me!"
But no, he was surprised to see
The wonderous sight before him of his Rose!
Before young Ned could say a thing
Rose took a knife to cut the strings
And quickly she had cut her Ned all free
Then grabbing Ned by both his arms
She led him far away from harm
Together they both hid behind a tree
And Rose said "Don't you fret my dear
I'll tell you what I'm doing here
I did not want to be alone in Bree.
So after my farewells to you
I packed my bags to go West too
And catch you up out on the road, you see"
"Through day and night I followed tracks
And finding rags dropped from your pack
I knew that you were very close to here
And then I heard those angry bears
I saw you with that brigand there
And so I'm here to rescue you my dear!"
And after hugging very tight
They found a spot to camp that night
So they could both start off at morning time
And rising with the new day's sun
They set off West, this time as one
Until they reached the flowing Brandywine
More hobbits then came into view
It was Marcho and Blanco too!
And they helped Ned and Rose across that day
They welcomed them both to The Shire
And cooked them food upon a fire
And told them both that they could gladly stay
So Ned and Rose had found The Shire
They'd found what they had both desired
A place to live and call their very own
And in this green and pleasant land
They walked together hand in hand
Forever happy in their new found home
