'At the Sign of the Prancing Pony' (Every Friday; 2:00 & 7:00 PM)

The smell of pipeweed and the sound of merry laughter drifts from the open door of the Inn of the Prancing Pony. It is a Highday, and like every Highday, Barliman Butterbur has opened his  common room to guests from lands near and far to sample his beer in exchange for coin, conversation, and a promise 'not to go up into thin air, thank you very much!'

This week's (June 13, 2025) hook:,

No beer!

A shipment of barley from Thornley’s Farm never made its way to the Prancing Pony… and now Barliman Butterbur is without a key ingredient for the brewing of his famous beer!

On this Highday, the guests of the Prancing Pony must content themselves with leftover (and long gone-off) casks of honey-wine from Yule. ‘Pooh! It’s bad!’ Tate Puddifoot can be heard complaining to another guest. ‘Old Liz can make a fine mead, but even she can’t master Barley’s memory; he forgot, I think, to store it right! Good thing his beer goes down as quick as it’s brewed… or else we’d be saying the same thing of his stuff! Oh, how I’d go in for a proper drop of that right now! And to think… the barley’s just sitting there somewhere at the bottom of Halecatch Lake, or so Mr Mandrake told me! I’d be tempted to go and fish it out myself if my legs weren’t so bad!’

Indeed, perhaps, some guest may be bold enough to pursue Mr Puddifoot’s rumour and retrieve the missing shipment of barley, lest they wish to spend another Highday stomaching Liz Honeymead’s spoiled honey-wine….

What, Where, and When

‘At the Sign of the Prancing Pony’ is a weekly story-based roleplay event series on Meriadoc held every Friday at 2:00 and 7:00 PM server-time which seeks to bring the community together under the roof of LOTRO’s Prancing Pony, with the event being relocated to an inn or tavern of the Roleplayers of LOTRO's Discord server’s community’s choice on the last Friday of every month.

Each event will include a unique story “hook”, and will be broken into two sessions or timeslots: an earlier session for EU players will begin at 2:00 PM server-time and a later session for NA players will begin at 7:00 PM server-time. It is possible and even likely that these sessions will overlap with each other!

Please note that these events will not feature a DM: you are free to run with the weekly hook as you choose, and to come as early or as late as you’d like.

Why

While roleplay in the Prancing Pony is nothing new, the intention of this event is to offer: 1) disparate members of the RP community a single time and place for RP, 2) new or inexperienced RPers a chance to RP and connect with other RPers, and 3) a launchpad for other adventures; consider using this event as a “lobby” for RP—maybe you can stop by the Pony to find a Ranger who will join you on a quest to banish brigands from your farm, a Dwarf-broker to clear your debts, or adventurers to join you on a treasure-hunt. Use this event as a means to develop your own stories!
