The sun shone brightly on the Havens of Belfalas. Spring had finally come around and greeted us with the blooming of our beautiful garden. The sound of the waves accompanied the beautiful sights of the Cape, only bested by the sights beside me
‘We are just perfect, aren't we?’ She asked, her eyes bluer than the ocean.
‘We sure are, Guri’ I responded. ‘We sure are.’
‘If you were to change one thing’ she rose a finger, looking deep into my eyes. ‘Just one, what would it be?
I took some time to answer. The thought of asking her to marry me had crossed my mind on more than one occasion, but it was far too soon for that. Even more so considering her past. Poor thing.
‘I am not sure I would change anything. We live a good life, do we not? And I have you! What else could I ever ask for?’
‘Come on!’ Guri giggled and hit my shoulder playfully. ‘You’re sweet, but indulge me! There must be something!’
I hesitated. I did not want to bring the mood down. However, if there was anyone to confide in this matter, it was her. Nobody would understand better than her.
‘There is something...’ I paused. ‘It's more of a fantasy of mine, really.’
‘Even better!’ her eyes glowed with curiosity.
‘I always thought I would leave the world a better place than I found it, you know?’
Guri blinked, a bit taken aback. ‘What do you mean?’
‘Well, it might sound a bit silly…’ I hesitated again. ‘When I was a child, I always pictured myself as Captain of the Citadel Guard, of a General in the King’s Army. Perhaps that might have been a bit of a stretch, but I would have light to fight for my people, rather than for gold.’
‘Well, I am sure the King is looking for noble warriors to fight for his cause, or perhaps a wise advisor!‘ Guri’s face lit up with optimism.
‘I am afraid it is not that easy’ I answered. ‘I am a mercenary. I have no honour.’
‘Of course you have honour!’ she replied with the warmest smile. ‘I would not be with you otherwise.’
‘Thank you, truly’ I caressed her cheek. ‘But you know it is not the same.’
‘Have you ever thought about going back to Minas Tirith? You could try to find out what happened to your father, at least.’
‘I don’t know if I can. I might still have enemies there.’
‘You think so? Would you not have seen them by now if that were the case?’
‘What if I already have?’
‘How so?’
‘Remember how I told you than my mother and I were attacked when we first came to Eriador? How can we be sure it was mere brigands? What if it was our enemies, who followed us?’
‘I really am sorry for you… But do not give up. You will change the world. I know it.’
‘If you say so, Guri…’
