And so it was that I gathered our first members into the Combe and Wattle Inn. After I introduced myself as Alveron I let the others talk and get to know each other. I realised that this understanding between them would someday mean the difference between life and death. Once the introductions and formalities were over I spoke of the reason why the Legion had been formed.
"Many of the Rangers of the North have left these lands to travel south. They will travelled south in aid to their leader, Aragorn, and in their absence they have left the North virtually defenseless. The Dunedain who stayed behind have asked me to form a Legion that will act in their absence."
I knew it was short but looking at all of the faces it seemed that I had gotten the point across. After taking a few brief questions from those gathered I led them all outside where I wished to witness their skills. I was pleased to see that they were all capable with weapons but, after sparring with two of our archers, I showed them all that it is not strength at arms which wins fights. It is more about tactics, cunning and intelligence, a point that was also shown when Otviss, a hobbit of the Shire, also beat one of the hunters in a spar.
The Elven hunters seemed a bit unnerved by their defeat but I told them not to worry, learn from mistakes and improve for the next drill. With that I dismissed everyone and told them to be ready for the next call.
