Renif and Cirdu

What follows is the tale of how Renif met the Man, Cirdu. These events took place about six months ago.

It was a regular day in the Prancing Pony, and Renif was drunk, as was normal back then. After around a dozen ales, Renif was ready for a fight. He surveyed his surroundings, and picked out the nearest person. A tall, imposing Man named Jagdin. Renif approached him, and after some insults, a fight broke out between the two. Just the way Renif liked it. After a short fight, it soon got out of hand. Renif ended up impaling Jagdin with his sword. He had not intended to maim Jagdin, and was shocked. Jagdin was quickly taken away by the Elf Loor, and cared for. Renif stood in the background with his bloody sword, looking sheepish. He soon got over it, consoling himself in the fact that Jagdin had deserved it. He thought nothing more of it...

...Until the following day. Renif was sober, for once, as he wandered around the Prancing Pony inn, when a man wearing all red confronted him. His name, he said, was Cirdu. And he was the son of Jagdin. And he wished revenge. Renif laughed in his face, walking away. Little did he know, Cirdu would not give up so easily.

For the next month, Cirdu hunted out Renif, repeatedly and ferociously trying to impale him as he had his father. Renif continuously fought him off, sometimes with the help of passers-by. Once, it took the combined might of Renif, Davie and a passing Dwarf to fend Cirdu off. This was when Renif realised Cirdu was mad. He would not give up. He had driven himself insane, trying to seek revenge for his father. The Elf, Elamplas, would often try to calm Cirdu down, but he would have none of it. Nothing would stop him. This was when Renif truly began to fear Cirdu. He was unpredictable.

Cirdu's revenge came eventually, however. Renif was confronted by Cirdu in front of the door inside the Pony for the final time. Renif was weary of forever living in fear of Cirdu's blade. He regretted stabbing Jagdin. He was drunk. He let Cirdu stab him. Renif was ready to die anyway. But then, the most curious thing happened. Instead of finishing him off, Cirdu brought him to a back room of the Pony, and healed him back to health. Renif never saw Cirdu again after that day. However, to this day he is still paranoid. His eyes often glance towards the shadows of the Prancing Pony's corners, dreading to see the familiar red shape of Cirdu lurking there.
