War in the north:
In the heart of Eriador, within the fortified city of Esteldin, a council of war convened. The walls, typically echoing with the bustling sounds of rangers training or blacksmiths forging, now held a weighty silence. Hunhir, the esteemed leader of the Rangers of Esteldin, stood before representatives from the Hand of Numenor, the Blue Mountain Regiment, and various allies from distant lands.
“I owe an apology,” began Hunhir, his voice resonating in the council chamber. “During our first meeting, my words may have been hasty. Now, having witnessed your bravery and dedication, I see the true value of the Hand of Numenor. You shall have our full support in enforcing the King's Will." As the assembly moved to shelter from the encroaching storm, a shadowy figure in drenched robes approached. Introducing himself as Mulwag, he claimed an assault had befallen him near Esteldin’s borders and sought protection. The assembly, ever willing to assist, agreed. Yet, as they followed him into a treacherous, steep-walled ravine, shadows emerged. The menacing Angmarim scouts, led by the formidable Degram, unfurled from the gloom. Mulwag, discarding his ruse, showed his true allegiance to this dark force. In the chaos of the ambush, Lord Thonin was the first to be taken captive. The Hand of Numenor and their allies fiercely resisted, but were soon outnumbered. Recognizing their dire position, the Blue Mountain Regiment's Dwarves retreated towards Esteldin, in hopes of reinforcements.
Hope arrived in the form of Hunhir, at the head of a battalion of Rangers, who stormed the scene and temporarily halted the enemy's advance. But it was not to last. Ranger scouts reported that Thonin was taken to Dol Dinen, the Silent Hill. Approaching this ominous location, the allies discerned a vast Angmarim encampment, thick with Orcs and looming threats. Hunhir, ever the tactician, advocated for stealth. Using the torrential rain as a veil, they moved unnoticed. But their covert operation was jeopardized near a heavily fortified gateway. Alarms blared, and malevolent trolls, empowered by dark magic like that witnessed in Taur Gorthwaith, began their advance. The situation turned dire. Hunhir, assessing the overwhelming odds, made the painful decision to retreat. It was during this chaos that Dragnar and Freylis were taken by the enemy, joining Thonin in captivity. The survivors reconvened at Esteldin, their faces etched with determination. They faced not only the daunting task of rescuing their comrades but confronting a growing Angmarim threat. By Esteldin’s walls, as the storm's wrath subsided, Hunhir looked pensively towards the horizon. "The resurgence of the Angmarim," he whispered, his voice heavy with concern, "signifies the dawn of war in the North.
Within the grim depths of Dol Dinen, Lord Thonin, Dragnar, and Freylis were bound, subjected to the cruel whims of Mulwag and Degram. The malevolent brothers sought information about the Hand of Numenor's plans, employing dark tactics to break their captives' spirits. Lord Thonin faced Degram with fierce determination, defiantly stating, "You'll get nothing from us." Though the brothers tried, they found no weakness to exploit. In hushed whispers during their brief respite, Dragnar shared tales of their past victories, while Freylis hummed tunes of hope. Their spirits, though battered, never wavered. Their bond deepened, promising each other that they'd see freedom again. Meanwhile, their allies prepared for an impending rescue mission, the urgency growing with each passing day.
