The Warg

Like every battle before, and likely every battle that will come, the plan in place does not even survive the first few minutes before it needs adjusting.  When the roar makes the ground tremble and Emmawynn sees the warg chasing Gemmah toward her, she shifts her focus.  She shoots arrow after arrow into his flesh, causing him to stagger in anger, to pursue harder, to lash out in pain.

Although she does slow a little for extra focus on her attempts at a kill shot, Emma does not stop, she does not hesitate even as the warg moves closer and closer. She continues to draw, aim and shoot. Her stance is firm yet flexible. She is poised ready to move if needed, and shifts her stance a couple of times as the warg drives them all closer together and to the rest of the battle.

Then she sees Winnie move, to …  slip on the ice and slide right down under the warg and there is no time. Emma reacts, driven by instinct and adrenaline, She draws her shortsword. There is a split second where all that the clan has endured flashes through Emma’s mind fueling her anger and her anguish in the moment. Something in her snaps, and she utters a single warcry like no one has ever heard from her. It carries all the anger and anguish that she feels but does not know how to express.

As the beast lunges at Winnie, Emma sprints about two steps and jumps on it's back her bow still held in a strange almost unbreakable grip in her left hand while she attempts with the right to plunge the short sword into it, aiming for the heart if she can, but more just frantically trying to stop it from eating Winnie.

Instead of the heart she manages to find a lung and she holds on to the sword twisting it as the beast tries to buck her off.  While the others slash the creature’s legs and throat, she tightens her own legs, holding on until she feels it finally collapsing to the ground.  She manages to roll free just in time, her sword left in the creature as she turns to see where her arrows are needed for the rest of the battle.
