A ruined statue by the water

Eyes opened wide that see ghosts, bare,
Chipped shield, scared face and broken arm
Marred  skin and blooded strands of hair
Deep waters mirror no old charm

They show a figure, huge,distorted
Where lines fade, twist and bend and drown
Like deeds and hopes that look now thwarted
As morning fades your starry crown

Once mighty shining marble wonder
Now mossed and mudded mundane rock
A sundered heart forever under
A breastplate made of dirty chalk

New day dispels the night's 'reflection,
Last mercy over a broken dream
Dispelled's both glory and perfection
Like stars in water's short lived gleam
