Visit to Distant Relatives or A Rascal's Trick - Prologue

It was a beautiful spring day outside – a gentle breeze was distracting the heat you’d see in this time of the year. The trees were softly swaying with the melody of the breeze, and birds were racing to sing their songs to praise their dance. Rabbits were wrestling in the meadow, salmon was hunting the worms at the bottoms of the river. In short, it was a day that would give the inspiration to a minstrel to compose a new tune, or a poet to write a new poem.

That day was also very important for Saelo, as he had picked it for spring cleaning, which meant, waking up earlier than the sun and cleaning every corner of his burrow. He was very finicky and careful when it was about cleaning. Every corner would be swept three times, every window would be cleaned at least twice and even utensils would make a journey to the nearest river. Of course, once again, he had gotten up very early, and busied himself with cleaning whole day.

Saelo picked up the last flower pot (changing its soil was the last thing to do!) and walked to the door, but just before he entered the burrow, the rays of the sun caught his eyes, and he found himself watching the sun going slowly down the hill. It always amazed him, and was one of his favourite things to do in his travelling years. Once again, he watched the sunset wit awe. But this time he also felt some sort of calling. He knew that feeling very well – whenever he felt it, he would find himself out of the Shire, walking through foreign places, visiting his friends in distant lands, going on a stupidity level adventure and whatnot. He sighed and carried the pot inside.

Rest of the day passed quickly with cooking something for dinner, which was not something fancy, but he did not mind it either. However, when he poured some tea for himself to company his biscuits, the feeling he sensed earlier that day came back again. He settled on his couch and started to think of his past adventures on one side, but on the other side he was wondering where could go this time. Close to finishing his tea, he remembered that it had been more than two years he had visited Maur Tulhau and his friends thereabouts. Going there probably would be sufficient to fill his hunger for an adventure. He finished his tea and carried everything to the kitchen, which was followed by a quick dish-doing.

I think, many would agree with me if I said that a tiring day and a good cup of tea would be enough to make one sleepy, which was the exact case for Saelo. After doing and drying dishes, he suddenly started to feel like rocks were swinging from his eyebrows. He slowly dragged his feet to bedroom and climbed up to the bed. The sleep found him quite fast, but there was a grin on his face, as the last thought before he fell asleep was dragging his friends with himself to Maur Tulhau.
