Saerias found me in my usual spot by the fountain, he had brought a bottle of Shire brandy to repay the one I had given him a day or so ago, and the gesture touched me. My opinion of this fellow fluctuates as each day passes. One minute he does something that makes me think there is more to him than meets the eye; more than just fence leaning and wandering, but then he acts in a way that makes me think him a ruffian.
We shared a drink, chatted for a while. The business concerning my flour delivery seemed to go well as the flour was delivered the very next day. I could tell he was hiding something. He was skirting around there being more to know, and then he asked me about my financial means, who does that? Ruffians! Well of course I told him I wouldn’t be giving him coin for her services, and he went on about his dealings with favours. I asked him to just be out with it and he told me not here, not in the open.
We walked for a while through the streets of Bree, Shire brandy along for the walk. He found this secluded spot, a small garden amongst the houses. I must say he chose the spot well, but I shall never look at it the same.
The truth came out not long after we arrived. He handed me this folded piece of parchment. A contract my Ned had signed with this Bell fellow.
My Ned had debt, lots of it. I had no idea, how could he keep this from me? I thought we were doing fine in the shop!
Saerias touched my last nerve after that. Implying there was more to be found, willing to find it if I wanted him too, if I had more favours. I couldn’t take it anymore! And the next time I see his face and those blue eyes I shall run away. The sooner I can get out of the courtyard and into a shop, the better, away from that fence leaning meddler.
