Another letter to Fiontann

Dear Fiontann,

I write to you in haste, as I am keen to update you on the situation in the Wildwood as soon as may be.

First, I am sure you wish to hear that we - Blodflaed, Morfryn, Remaric, Lheuwen and myself - are all well, and suffered no serious injuries. While I remained at the Wharf to assist Calvert with his affairs, I have spoken with the others and corroborated their accounts to provide the below report.

Our task to protect the workmen of the League of the Wildwood was only a partial success. The giant spiders, of which I told you in my last letter, attacked the caravan twice during the expedition - although the company earned their pay and successfully defended all the labourers on both occasions. We will not be left out of pocket from this venture.

It appears however that our client may have even deeper troubles than we realised. During the expedition, it seems that one of the workmen murdered another, fleeing the scene with the aid of an unknown accomplice; the company tracked them south towards Breeland before losing the trail. Moreover, close to the worksite, the company found the bodies of two others, who had been murdered and their bodies subsequently dumped in a lake in the woods - though they were apparently unknown to anyone at the Wharf. Again, the company were unable to determine the culprit, although some were determined to cast suspicions on a young man of the Wharf - I could not say why, nor does it seem wise to say more in a letter of this nature. I am posting notices in Bree and Trestlebridge in the hope that the families will come forward to claim the bodies soon.

I know I speak for us all when I tell you that we could greatly use your guidance at this time. At present, most of the company seem willing to remain at the Wharf for a little longer in case of any further threats emanating from the Wildwood; but I do not yet know if the traders will be willing to keep us on indefinitely.

For my part, it seems clear that we are needed here - although I cannot judge which is the greater threat: monsters, or men.

Yours ever,

Evonne Elmwater
