Did you miss me?

It was a thankless job being in city watch, but she knew better than to ask for applause or thanks. She chose to go into this career, knowing full well the scrutiny that came with the uniform. She wanted to protect people plain and simple. Though, sometimes she felt equivalent to a politician rather than a guard. With the complaints that people brought to her door. The job was rarely dull. Maedlossaen turned the key and opened the door to her modest abode. Most of the city had gone to sleep by now it was half past midnight when she returned from her shift. She locked the door behind her. Then felt a draft coming in from upstairs she didn't remember leaving a window open. Odd. When things like this happened she knew better than to leave her sword behind. She slowly crept up the steps prepared for any intruders. She turned the knob and opened her bedroom door.  No one. However, the window near the bed remained wide open. A parcel was left on the bed and a note placed on her night stand. She lights the lamp on the night stand. Then reads the note it was short but guaranteed to get her attention. It read in bold letters 'Did you miss me?'   It did not invoke fear in her but it did bring irritation. Who was taunting her now? It couldn't be the anonymous man she apprehended he was in jail. And under careful supervision.

And the parcel..? It was not something she was ready to open. The inspector left the parcel on the bed and decided to open it during daylight hours and in her office.  She closes the bedroom window but did not deem it safe to sleep in the bedroom. Thus she went downstairs and lit the fireplace in the parlor and sat down in her favorite arm chair.  She would sleep on the lower floor this night.  That way she could keep an ear open for any other unwanted guests..
