The Dûnedain kinship was created to harbor mature European role players that are familiar with the lore as Tolkien wrote it and are willing to use that as a guideline when role playing. Our Dûnedain characters will roam the wilderness of the desolated lands of Eriador, ever vigilant against the minions of the dark enemy. When not guarding the borders of old, we dwell in the Angle, the secret settlement for the Dûnedain. Some of us might rest or seek knowledge in Rivendell. Note that we do not recognize the in-game lore about Dûnedain settlements in Evendim and Esteldin or the kingdom of Angmar. In the late third age, those lands were desolated and rarely visited, according to the lore from the books.
As a Dûnedain, we keep things secret, rarely (if ever) give away our names and tell who we are and where we dwell, to outsiders. Secrecy is the key to the Dûnedain survival and such should reflect upon how you role play your dûnadan. The elves of Rivendell are familiar with us, as they are the guardians of the Dûnedain heritage and legacy. Our members and those who desire to role play with us, must understand that extremely few are aware of the Dûnedain heritage and should be clueless to their history, unless you're an elf. The timeline for our stories are set in a vague late third age.
Requirements to join:
Create a Dûnedain character in-game
As a dûnadan, your in-game character must have the characteristics of a Dûnedain. He/she must be tall, pale-skinned, with dark hair and gray eyes. We read that the rangers of the north were grim in life, appearance and dress, choosing to wear plain rustic clothes. Have that in mind, outfitting your character.
Your character name must be in sindarin as that is the custom among the Dûnedain. Avoid using the Ar- prefix in your character name, because that indicates royal line and only Aragorn and his forefathers were of that. We know that most names are taken in-game, so we will not reject you, if it is not 100% accurate.
Create a Laurelin Archive account
Create an LA account for your in-game character and fill out your character background, that shows us that you master the lore and have a character that fits our requirements. If you are unsure about the lore, please visit this site: Dúnedain of Arnor - Tolkien Gateway If still uncertain, do not hesitate to contact us.
Be aware that this kinship only allows pure blooded Dûnedain of the north and nothing else. There will be no half-dûnedain, exiled Gondorians, half-elf, adopted Bree folk or any other races for that matter, if that is unclear for some. Also, your character will not have any sort of connection to any canon figures or stories from the books (or movies). In this kinship, our characters spin their own tales.
Make sure you are familiar with the rules using the Laurelin Archives, so you avoid agonizing other users of the site. As members of this kinship, we try to avoid posting no more than one post at a time, despite the rules allowing three. This is to be considerate towards other users of the site and not push away their content unnecessarily.
What we expect of you!
As a member of this kinship, it's expected that you will behave like a true Dûnedain. We will always be polite and courteous towards other players, both out of character and in character, regardless of the medium that is used. We are here to have fun and enjoy each other's company as we spin stories together.
This means; Do not bring your personal issues and problems into the kinship or in the game, while you represent this kinship. Do not assume the worst in what other people type or say. Stop projecting please. Communicate instead, if you are unsure of their meaning and have a smarter and a more polite discussion. If you are an easily offended person or are constantly debating in world chats, discord channels and other mediums, you are usually the one creating more drama than needed and this kinship has no room for you. There will be zero tolerance for drama!
This is the kinship most important guideline and we ask all that consider joining us, to sit down and reflect upon their own behavior, before applying.
Activity
Real life comes first and we do not believe in role playing every day or even every weekend. It's important to pace yourself, so you do not get burnt out or bored. If you are a role player that contributes with ideas, rp events and such, you are most welcome. We prefer role players that desire to be here for the long haul and not for quick thrills and entertainment, then disappear.
So to make sure we get the right people on board, all must go through a 3 month trial period. Your character must be at level 30 when you apply and reach level 60 before the end of the trial period. This kinship role play in the wilderness and having a high level character help avoid being attacked by in-game npc monsters, disturbing the rp session and ruining the immersion.
Please sit down and consider your own motivation, before applying.
We have tried to set the lore and the rules as a foundation for a mature audience.
