Sneaking Back

The hoot of an owl nearby both frightened Dru inexplicably, and snapped her out of her stupor. She lifted a shaking hand to wipe away the cold layer of sweat from her face.

"What am I doing." Her voice was slightly slurred, as though she was dazed. She willed herself to move, but her legs would not listen. It took some time before she finally forced them to support the weight of her body.

She didn't know how she would manage to handle Furley and Davamir in the morning, but she decided not to let that thought bother her. In fact, she forced her mind to empty. She only felt the numb instinct to return to Thorenhad, where she left the two men sleeping safely.

The walk back was somehow quicker than when she had searched for the cave. At least, with the haze over her mind it seemed thus.

It was something like two and a half hours to dawn when she finally slipped back into her bedroll. This time, however, she left her weapons on and faced Davamir, who appeared to have stayed in the same position the entire time she was gone.

Dru would not allow the man's words and threats to echo in her head...but she could not help the fear they'd stirred anyway.

Still, she was thankful that the two seemed to have slept through her excursion. Perhaps...she could explain why she wanted to search Bree-land yet again, without telling about...

No. No more thinking. She forced herself to pull her hood over her face. They were safe for now and if she wanted to keep them that way, she would get what sleep she could.

"You have before. This is nothing new."

Sleep. But no rest.
