Davamir and Furley had been bantering and picking on each other as if they were siblings, for what felt like months now. It was usually Dav who crossed a line and would need to be put back in his place, but for the most part they managed to keep themselves somewhat in line. Normally, Dru would be annoyed with the childish winding-up, but this time it seemed to lighten the trek through the Trollshaws, which was threatening to drown everything in darkness.
Surprisingly enough, they managed to make it to Thorenhad without much an incident. This was the area she'd been waiting to reach with mix of excitement and dread. This had been where she intended to go before finding Furley's trail.
As the three of them lay out the bedrolls, Davamir sighed leisurely. "It'll be good to not being kicked awake for watch in the middle of the night, for a change!" He stretched out on his bedroll like a content puppy and Dru rolled her eyes. He always seemed to complain when it was his time for watch.
But he was right. It was a good opportunity for the three of them to catch up on some sleep. She would not be catching up on sleep this night, however.
After they shared a meal of some hardtack and coney stew, it did not take long for the three of them to settle down into their bedrolls. Dru lay in hers, staring up at the sky until she heard Davamir's quiet snoring begin. She turned onto her side, facing Furley's back.
"It should not be too long now..."
She had to wait longer than usual, but it was not too terribly long before Furley stopped fidgeting and she heard him mutter something in his sleep.
Carefully, she slipped out of her bedroll and donned her hood, belt and gloves again. Her gaze went between the two men, sleeping soundly now. She knew Dav would know not to worry if he awoke to find her missing, but she feared Furley would wake from one of his frequent nightmares and trouble would arise.
If he roused Dav first, he would most likely explain her absence easily enough.
She shook her head and stepped away. She needed to focus and stop worrying. They were grown men.
The night air was crisp and the moon was bright, but the shadows of the forest allowed her ample coverage to get around stealthily. She did not know the exact location of the cave she needed to find...but she knew she would be able to find it. She would simply need to act quickly while remaining cautious.
She would need to find the man they called "The Ditch". It seemed a silly nickname, but Dru found enough evidence to show that the reason behind the name was far more sobering..
He would be hard to catch unawares. But she could handle him. Probably.
