A letter received into the hands of Khalis Imieran of Imladris from Talus Redthorn with regards to the Ancient Stone in the Laenan Caves.

My group Eclipse has a variety of roles one of which is Exploration and Archeology. On a recent expedition within the Troll-Shaws we ventured into some cave network which we heard old ruins are buried within.
We managed to find the old ruins, hard to decipher their origin but I'd say they appear to be works of man from long ago. But more to the point, deep within the tunnel system we came to a large opening. At the far end of the old flooded hall was a sealed door, in front we found an omnious pillar with a glowing yellow rune upon it.
We never had much time to look into it further as Orcs began to flood the caves from the Ettenmoors. We managed to get out before anything serious happend.
The only information I can give on the rune is; that it made my heart feel heavy, as if there was no hope left in the world.

I am pleased to hear others are concerned about the appearance of these stones across Arda. The Lord of Imladris and others have concerns like your own. So much so that our warband was despatched to investigate any rumours of such stones. The one you found is in a location we call the Laenan Caves, and is filled with Orcs the remains of an Ettinmoors raiding party. But it seems they also have discovered this stone and seem bent on discovering its purpose, hence they seem to have constructed an encampment within the caves.
A small group are to meet soon in Imladris to share what knowledge they have discovered about the stone since they last met. You are more than welcome to attend.
