A memory

The lady sat near the fire as she did every night, it was solitude she needed, contemplation. Her mind became so cluttered especially when she drew too much attention to herself. She sighed and closed her eyes. Her mind recollected a sweet voice that she never could forget, no matter how many times she tried. That is how timeless love is. Through her shut eyes her mind paints a scene...

"You are jumping at shadows I tell you, I know you miss her, I do as well. She was the sister that I never had. Even if I was the husband that she wanted." Raymond jested in hopes of lightening the mood. "But you are with child. It isn't your job right now to worry about things that could go bump in the night. This is a cottage in the countryside of Bree-land. I'm here and I am keeping the roof over our heads. You're here to simply keep warm and to keep the roof from burning down. I have everything under control."

"I do not blame you for what happened Raymond, but do not perceive that you know better than I in this. She was at the estate when the blaze started. Aldway was the one that woke me up before the flames reached the upper level. Faren's treachery was not the only injustice against myself and our kin. Those heathens spared none. The only reason I escaped was because of my sister's sacrifice. I had to start all over again.  I ran to the city watch and what did they do? They said that I was lying! That no Bree-lander would set my property ablaze.  If... if that organization is still alive.. still hiding somewhere. We need to find it!"

Raymond gently put his hands on his wife's shoulders and pushed her into the rocking chair beside their bed. "If they are then I promise you. We will get our revenge. Now unless you want to put a strain on the babe. I highly advise that you set your pretty little self down and let me worry about the big, terrible, world. A lady is nothing without her knight remember?"

If only he knew how prophetic those words were. She didn't want to reflect on this any further, Aellwenn opens her eyes and puts the fire out. Walking down the hallway to her room.
