On the subject of Broadbeams

You cannot tell a Broadbeam apart from another dwarf you say? Well let me correct your lack of knowledge and enlighten you with some wisdom on the subject.

First thing you will notice, is that we are generally more stocky than most, since we love our three meals a day and a hefty tankard of strong ale to flush the food down. A Broadbeam have a fair complexion and the color of our beard and hair can vary from black, brown to dark blond. Rare is the old Broadbeam dwarf with grey or white hair, since it seems we have a shorter lifespan than our cousins for some reason.

Another visual giveaway might be our attire. As we like to display ourselves as rooted to the soil, our clothing is usually simple and unelaborated. And it’s not always easy to distinguish one of our nobles, like myself, with our sturdy working class. And our people, sometimes known as Linnar’s folk, like to add pelts and furs to their earth colored attire as well, to protect them from the cold up here in the north.

If the visual isn't enough to sort us out, you should watch dwarrow's in social gatherings. If you talk with a sensible and not easily offended dwarf, who does not raise an eyebrow if he sees an elf, you are most likely talking to a Broadbeam. I like to say and with no offense to my cousins, that we are the most civilized and polite clan of the seven dwarf clans. Maybe not all Broadbeams, but most of us.

But in battle, we become another beast. Since we let cooler heads prevail and are relentless in our goals, we become better strategists because of it. With a combination of that and our crafting and fighting skills, a Broadbeam warrior is respected upon the field, with his superior armor and usually swinging a double-handed axe.

Our chainmail is unique and much sought after, since we possess the best armor smiths. There are none that can match the Broadbeams in that regard, in my humble opinion. Even in the old days, the elves came to our doors and pleaded for our help to equip them for war, which was gladly given. Beside our armor, we are also known for our intimidating masked helmets, we wear in battles with great effect against our foes.

But let’s not hope you have to face a Broadbeam on a battlefield, but instead meet the warmth and hospitality of our halls instead.

With this I hope I have managed to broaden your wisdom about us Broadbeams.
