"Oh, hullo! What's a little deer like you doing here?"
Indeed, it certainly was rare for such an animal to be sighted in Tuckborough. In Buckland, maybe, but not here! The young hobbit curiously stared at the deer, which didn't at all seem alarmed by her presence.
It didn't take long before Lulu found out why the deer was there; a great ugly dog came bursting out of the trees! She didn't recognise it at all... who owned that monster?!
Nothing else for it. Lunganda summoned all the courage she had, picked up a decently-sized pebble, and threw it at the dog... as luck would have it, the pebble hit it square on the snout! It ran away, tail between its legs, yapping and yowling as it went.
"Well... that's that. You poor thing. How scared you must have been," the hobbit sighed. "I've been out picking apples, and I certainly didn't expect to run into you! Hopefully you don't get chased by any more dogs. Good afternoon."
And with that, she nodded politely at the little fawn, turning on her heels to begin walking away. One can only imagine the surprise she felt when she heard a soft bleating nose behind her.
From that moment on, that little deer was affectionately named 'Buttercup' and remained by Lunganda Took's side.
