The burden of happiness

Aellwenn sat by her front window as was her custom when deep in thought, happiness. What is happiness? And did she deserve it after all this time? The aristocrat in her wanted to step on the so-called 'peasants' in Bree-town. People were annoying her more than usual of late. But then what would that accomplish? Nothing wholesome or praiseworthy. No, it would only reinforce the ideas of her that were already present.

She felt mocked by nearly everyone she walked into and so she feared herself.  She feared what she had tried to keep in check for so many months. Her emotions.

Dirtar brought her happiness, he brought her a sense of home that she hadn't felt since Raymond passed. The way he smiles as she enters a room. His company alone was enough to bring her peace. But how long would it be until one mistake, one blunder, would drive him away?

It seemed to her that as the years went by no one stayed.

'Shame on you. You should be happy. You should be thankful.' She thought to herself.

Was she made for peace? Or was she made for turbulence?

Perhaps only the Gods know such an answer.
