| Outward Appearance | Physical AppearanceA severe Ñoldo, in expression and form, Argollon is never seen with a smile lightening his stern features, nor a wrinkle on his fine clothing. His expressions are rarely unkind, simply just, more often than not, frozen in some varying degree of scowl; he is constantly in thought, and this manifests in pensive frowns. That aside, he carries himself proudly, if a bit stiffly. His strange eyes are keen, and are of an unusual hue that appears in most lighting to be typical Ñoldorin grey; sunlight, however, shows the true color as that of a pale, clear green.
The clothing he wears tends towards darker fabrics; shades of black and brown, primarily, with a slight fondness for purple for more fanciful occasions. He keeps his hair out of his eyes with a relatively simple circlet, adorned with semiprecious stone beads. His ears are unadorned, as are his fingers. He does, however, wear a small grass-woven bracelet around his wrist that shines like gold.
PersonalityHe is, at first glance, a very brisk and reserved Ñoldo, speaking with little care nor inflection to his tone, potentially leading some to assume his speech intended rudely or insulting. While he can be somewhat prickly, he is not an unkind ellon, and will freely give counsel or consolation if asked. While he may not be outwardly very expressive, he is as passionate and proud as any other of the Ñoldor; he can, will, and has, gone on long debates and discourses over the various topics of which he can claim no small amount of knowledge. He is almost constantly prepared for situations he can forsee and is by his nature, very orderly, valuing very much organization over chaos. He is the sort of steady, unflappable, stoic ellon that can seemingly weather any storm thrown his way, with little more than a blink of his eyes in vague annoyance.
That said, he does indeed have a temper, and it will flare over a variety of triggers. Unwarranted attention is the usual, contact without permission another. Yet truly the most common reason for his anger to flare is one who treats him rudely first. He is ever polite, almost comically formal in most all situations, so for that politeness to be treated with rudeness (even if his excessive formality makes some think he is being sarcastic and rude). When angry, his tongue is sharp and harsh, and he is very, very slow to forget grievous insults. However, he is also quick to set aside his anger should apology be given. |

Background
A scholar raised in the cradle of knowledge in the Second Age, a son of Ost-in-Edhil, Argollon is an elf young by no means, but nor is he as ancient as some. Wisdom of years he has, if bookish wisdom, for he spent the many centuries before the Fall of Eregion in deep study of all things large and small. Accompanied by his childhood friend of many years, Siliel Isilimë, he became a reknowned scholar by both the Ñoldor of Eriador and the Sindar of Eryn Lasgalen. His was one of many voices that counseled against allowing the Maia, Annatar, into their fair city, for if Galadriel and Cirdan the Wise did not give him haven, why should the city of the Ñoldor? His wariness was well-founded, even if the consequences far exceeded his expectation. When it was revealed that Annatar was indeed Sauron, he remained in Ost-in-Edhil to help prepare to defend the city. His were the hands of a healer, not a warrior, but both were needed in ample supply to preserve the city.
Ost-in-Edhil fell, despite all the efforts of the Ñoldor, and it was sheer fortune that Argollon himself survived. He led a group of refugees towards Lindon, where they met with the forces of Elrond Half-elven, and learned of Celebrimbor's tragic fate. Wounded, and occupied with tending to those victim to Sauron's attack on Ost-in-Edhil, Argollon traveled with the host of Elrond to found the Last Homely House, Imladris.
There he has remained ever since, only departing on brief ventures for his research, trips to Eryn Lasgalen with Isilimë, and once for the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.
Names and Their Origins
Laechendir
Laeg (S) noun. 'sharp' 'green'
Hen (S) noun. 'eye'
Dîr (S) noun/suffix. 'adult man'
Given to him by his mother, for his rather unusual eye color, the hues of his irises shifting from Ñoldorin grey to an almost pale green. His father jokingly proclaimed 'Laechendir' to be his father name as well, to mean 'sharp-eyed' as he was, from a young age, predisposed to scowling; hence the double-meaning of his name and lack of a father-name.
Argollon
Ar(a)- (S) prefix. 'noble'
Goll (S) adjective. 'wise'
-on (S) m. suffix
A name he earned in Ost-in-Edhil, as his reputation grew and he became known as an intelligent scholar and wise adviser. The only public epessë he has, he prefers to go by this name and will introduce himself as 'Argollon' to new acquaintances.
