Maurr son of Bóurr to Miss Taite Rushwood greeting!
Returned we are from Thorin’s Hall at long last, my honor-sister’s wedding complete. Forgive me for taking so long to contact you; I thought that after that business was over we would pass a relaxed winter and spring, but one thing has followed upon the other, and very busy we have turned out indeed.
But I write to let you know that your earrings are now a necklace, thanks to Maddoct’s fine hand! Let me know what evening I might stop by to drop them off for you, and, if you still have need, to take your ring for resizing. Of course I hope Maddoct can show his beard as well, but certain important work occupies his attention, so I can make no promises on his behalf.
I hope you and yours are well, and am honored to remain,
Yours deeply,
Maurr
P.S. Where is Tumunir! I know from his employer that he is in town, but pinning down that slippery Dwarf so that I may actually buy him an ale is eluding me!
My Most Ever Dearest Master Maurr!
I am so happy to hear from you! Whatever time goes by where I do not see you or speak to you, I am as joyful as ever to get a word from my beloved friend (and forever the handsomest beard in all of Middle-earth!). I hope you have kept warm and well through the winter, and remembered to wear your scarf! Congratulations (I hope I spelled that right) on the marrige maria wedding of your honor-sister (I don't know this term - what exactly does it mean?)! Goodness, look at me, only a few sentences and already full of too many extra markings. I daresay this will be confusing to read.
Please don't apologise for not writing sooner. Tairy and I were away for some weeks ourselves, taking our long awaited trip west to visit the Sea. If Gondor were next-door, I would take him there in a moment, but since it is not, this had to do! Ah, but it's funny to see me talk about "taking him" anywhere, when it is he who has to help me along anywhere we go. Anyway, I won't talk your ear off about it, and I doubt you want to hear me mooning over how much I love him and how I blush and smile like an utter fool to even write about him!
Oh, I cannot wait to see the necklace! I remember very well the color of the stone you showed me. Like spring leaves, or green apples in summer! I will cherish it like no other pose...poses...thing I own. I will have to find a way to thank Mister Doc. Not an easy thing, when you dwarves are so good at creating such beautiful things all by yourselves! Oh, and aye, the ring is still far too big for my little fingers! I wear it on a cord round my neck for now, but I worry about losing it. And I would never, ever forgive myself if that happened.
Please come by for a visit soon! Don't vanish again over some mountains and be gone another half-year without at least giving me a hullo and a hug.
You asked about Master Tumunir. He is about. But he's been working with other dwarves, doing things I know little about. And you know he is closer than a turtle in its shell about his business. So I can't be very helpful in pointing to exactly where he might be! But if I see him first, I will tell him you're looking for him. He does seem much easier, at least, than he used to be. Not so frightened and anxious and snappy as when he first came to us! But I wouldn't want him to change too much, to be truthful. I love him just as he is.
Already I'm writing far too much, and we will have nothing to talk about when you visit! So I will close here.
Forever your friend,
Taite
