The Bancross Mystery: The Monolith

The cold snow covered plains around Bancross reveals nothing out of the ordinary and I'm starting to question my self appointed task. Have the villagers wagging tongues gotten to me? Nah… I put my trust into Ethel’s observation, that our little village is the center of attention from strangers. But still, I have not seen any in or outside the village.

Not a single track of either horse or man, but then again the heavy snowfall these last days could easily cover any tracks. Still no closer to any clues on what's going on, the trip was not a total loss. During these few days of venturing out, I managed to snare a few rabbits and even fell a young buck. Way too much food for myself, so I will share the spoil with my friends and hope it will be a pleasant surprise.

Standing there observing the plain’s horizon, I feel the cold wind gently caressing my face, telling me that the winter still lingers and the spring is far away. Pondering on my next move to return home or continue sweeping the plains, I notice a figure in the distance and something is odd. It's a man wandering south of me, coming from Edoras it seems and heading towards Bancross. But still measuring the distance and the height of the figure, something is not right. He is too tall for an ordinary man and he is built like a bull, which explains why he walks. No horse could carry that man.

Maybe this is one of the strangers Ethel and the other villagers have spoken about? I take the reins of my horse and start moving towards Bancross myself, but not on an intercepting path with the man, but still closer, so I can measure this giant of a man better.

The man takes his time and walks very slowly, head fixated towards Bancross and does not seem to acknowledge my presence. As I get closer and see the man's heavy grey armor and  two axes, all of rohan design, I realize who this man is and cannot stop grinning, almost laughing out loud. The drab monolith have for some reason decided to come to Bancross and if that will not start the villagers tongue, nothing will. And poor Hildfrith, she will probably face the monolith soon if I’m not mistaken. One thing for sure, I will stay clear of the Roaring Dragon tavern in the coming days.

Chuckling to myself, I set a direct course towards my farm and home, looking forward to a warm rabbit stew.
