A letter home to Budgeford

I hope that this reaches you folks in time, the post out here in Bree-Land seems a bit funny compared with the old hot-footed service back 'ome. Never mind, the fellow behind the bar said it gets there in good time.

It's weird being out of the Shire for so long I 'ave to admit. Out here things get a bit confuddled very easy like. You ask for a pint an' what you get is this great-arsed huge mug!. They do 'ave hobbit sized cups but you have to remember to ask for 'em!.

An' you know - they just don't 'ave the same in the way of the old 'shroom!. Now don't get me wrong, the big folk like a 'shroom too but they just don't prep an' make 'em the same or in the same quantity!. They use 'em as a side dish, a side dish!. Not 'ere for the great dish of mixed woodland 'shrooms that takes the centre of the table!.

On the other hand they do 'ave lots of boar. Lots an' lots of it!. An' bear - who'd 'ave thunk you'd eat bear?!?. They're sorta six feet of more, claws and teef that'd make yer widdle yersel' and they eats it!. This has to be proof that the big folks are all slightly barking. Good an' barking mostly, but nevertheless; barking.

An another thing! There's a pathway over the roofs o' the big folks houses. What's that all about?. Streets should be streets, not great clambering paths up into the sky!. It's runs of fer more than a half mile anyway, crossin' roofs with bridges, actual bridges built between roofs for it!. It's a wonder more people don't injure themselves falling!.

Hope you guys are well, I'll be popping in for a visit soon on me way through the Shire. An' be careful if yer going out after dark these days, there's black folks about an' brigands on the borders!. You might want ter look into stayin' with Uncle Rambasto an' Aunt Alvara out in Michael Devling till it blows over, somewhere more central like.

Your son,

Dagoro
