Forsaken Inn - Breeland
The man and woman informed Khalis they were on their way to Rivendell with their small child. The woman Khalis observed spoke openly whereas the man seemed very guarded and hardly spoke a word, Khalis didn’t even recall getting his name which came across as ill mannered to the elven warrior. The woman was named Tucona.
Khalis explained that his company were heading west, and that otherwise they would have gladly offered one of their company to escort them to the Gates of Imladris and the safety of the warriors there. His did his best to explain the route westward and the best route and then took leave to return to his friends gathered around the fireplace. As the night drew on the company slowly dwindled seeking to prepare things for the morrow and take rest. The last two remaining when Khalis took his own leave were the two men-folk Bishrodir and Amorik who Khalis noticed seemed to spend much time when allowed to ponder the whys and wheres of the realm.
With the coming up of the morning sun the company of riders from Imladris were seen riding from the Forsaken Inn heading towards Breeland.
As they approached Breeland so the quantity of riders using the roadways increased steadily the more westward they rode until they came within sight of the southern gatehouse of Bree itself. The company were challenged at the gate by an older warrior claiming to be a retired guardsman asking what drew a company of riders with elves among their company this far west. Elisbeth spoke a little to him providing only minimal information for all were aware of the need to be more cautious as they passed through Breeland. Seemingly content the warrior then left the company to enter the town gates.
Idhrenaith informed Elisbeth that from his time spent among the rangers he would seek out a place for the company to rest and see to their horses away from prying eyes. With Elisbeth’s agreement Idhrenaith rode into town whilst the others steadily walked their steeds forward all aware of the eyes watching them. For even with their armour concealed under loose tunics and cloaks the fact that many of their company were elves was unmistakable. Idhrenaith soon returned and offered the place called the Mess Hall as a place to rest up for a few hours, he informed the company that it was empty and would suit their needs. And so they made their way to the mess hall as quickly as they could without drawing more attention to themselves. They found the mess hall well lit and warm with plenty of tables and chairs well suited for their small needs.
Whilst the others were eating and their horse were being taken care of Elisbeth informed Khalis that she wished to speak to a certain historian she knew in town. She had a small book she wished to give him as a gift. So donning their cloaks once more Khalis and Elisbeth left the comfortable surrounds of the Mess Hall. As they passed the stables Khalis broke away from Elisbeths company to check on their horses, when next he caught up with Elisbeth down the road his eyes took on a surprising scene. There before him was a raggedy figure with their back to him brandishing a knife with uncertain skill towards Elisbeth. As much as Khalis had great faith in the skills of Elisbeth he did not wish such a scene to draw attention to the warband passing westward. Khalis approached the figure from behind and as he got within striking range made his presence quietly known to the assailant. Khalis had no need to worry for the figure then informed them that her life was forfeit for failing in her task. This got the curiosity of both Elisbeth and Khalis who once the assailant had dropped the knife escorted her away from the main pathways to a less obvious place to talk.
The young woman in the presence of the two elves did not remain silent, she spoke of her employer and that he had told her she must separate the woman travelling with the warriors from any letters or other unusual possessions and should she fail her life would be forfeit. She pleaded for them to take her life as it would be more favoured than the treatment she would get if she returned empty handed to her employer.
Elisbeth spoke with the young woman for a fair time seeing to her needs for she was half starved as well. The woman’s name and the words of what was said between the two have no place here in these archives but the young woman left the company of Elisbeth alive and with slight more confidence to her gait.
