Third Age Diary: Waymeet to Weathertop (3/4)

We did not stay at the inn for long. Just long enough to make sure the others of the company left and returned as quick as possible to the company house. Amathlan returned to Bree with them, to gather up more bodies. Though we were only scouting, it was best for more of us to be there in case something went wrong.

Lady Gisuna and I planned our next step, deciding we should start back at Minas Eriol, where we had met the two strange men. That would be the best way to track them. Amathlan returned quite quickly, followed by Hiril Seregrian and Lady Marganil, who I have not had the pleasure of speaking with in person yet.

We rode to Minas Eriol, and with the help of Gisuna, we were able to follow the scent and tracks back north where we encountered an orc camp. Hiril Seregrian scouted the camp first and began to take down the orcs one by one.She was fierce that day.

From the camp of orcs, we tracked the trail of the men back up to the base of the mountain. We stopped to rest for a while. We had been riding and tracking all day, and the hour was late. Amathlan went ahead to scout our next direction with Hiril Seregrian, while Lady Gisuna and I stayed behind, to tend to her wounds.

When they returned, we discussed how we should proceed. Whether we should stay and camp for the night, or whether we should continue with our search.

At this point, we had been awake for at least two days, not that it seemed to matter to Amathlan. So it was decided that we would move on.

As we made our way up the mountain, we came across a disturbing sight. A body lay in our path. The man was of the company who had ambushed us at Minas Eriol. He was dead, and lay in a pool of his own blood. Whether orcs or beasts were the ones responsible, we did not stay to find out.

We hurriedly continued our search, but this time with more caution. When we reached a fork in the road, the scent showed us that the men had not gone up the mountain, as I had thought, but they had turned west, towards some old ruins.

Amathlan and Seregrian led our party that way and we had the misfortune of coming across a second dead body, by the river. Another of the men who had ambushed us. It appeared as if something large had been dragged up the western bank, so we followed the path.

Upon reaching the crest of the hill, Lady Gisuna sniffed and pointed out smoke coming from the ruins of Gondrimm. We all approached, and to our surprise, we found 4 men, seemingly hurrying to pack up their camp.
