Log 4: Entry 15

Patient: Human, male, adult
Symptoms:
abdominal cramps, mild fever, loose bowels
Treatment: Dandelion- and/or chamomile tea, spoonful of apple cider vinegar, peppermint leaves for chewing. Toast.
Meeting: Today

Couple of days ago I was called into town to examine a man that asked for a healer. I suspect he may have eaten something rotten. I've instructed his companion on the diet and to keep him hydrated. I'll visit the town later today to check on the man and see if things have gotten better or worse.

The past few days have been trying. It's made me lazy with keeping my writing up, I don't remember everything that has happened and I can't look it up.
I'm still uncertain what is happening with me. There's still no fever and I've made sure to keep track of what I eat, when it's eaten and that I prepare it. There's been no change.
I may have to start seeking outside help. I'll have to contemplate whether it's better to seek those I know, or look for a new healer to seek aid from. Not certain where to start if I go for the latter. I cannot write a notice or let news travel within the community. Nothing good will come of my reputation if it becomes known that a doctor is seeking another healer to cure him.

I've had to keep the Soothery locked since the incident with that man. He's not been seen since that night and I've heard nothing from Ruevir regarding the matter. Can't help but worry for her safety after the whole thing. Nothing natural about a man chasing a young woman home, bring others and skulk around in the yard, even going as far as to try and pick the lock to my door.
At least the man was foolish enough to give her a name, that was passed on to Fiontann. It appears that he's been keeping an eye on me through the use of a raven. It was a relief to hear it, those birds were starting to make me uneasy.
He came bursting through the door, but a bit too late. I can only hope that the neighbors didn't take notice of the men in the yard, or when Fiontann came running with a blade in hand. Can't imagine what people might make of such without context.
There's already a dwarf across the street that seems to give me bitter looks and I don't know why. Whether it's something I've done or maybe strange stories that have been brought to his attention. Always possible that he simply doesn't like my presence, it wouldn't be the first time.

I've not heard or seen much of miss Rushwood since that evening. It's possible that she's still upset with me or disappointed, as she admitted. I made mention of the evening to Fiontann, hoping he could give me some insight. Appears that now he'll be giving me lessons on it all, to be upset when someone isn't happy. I'm not sure how anyone is meant to teach such nor do I see a point in it. Seems bothersome, but it appears it's what's required or even demanded of me. At times I begin to wonder if I must take up the habit of lying to make this stop. I don't care for lying, it's too much trouble remembering it, but people are unable to handle the truth. If it isn't as they want it to be, they are upset or disappointed. Is kindness no longer valid if it's for your own reasons and not to cater to another person? It's what miss Rushwood suggested when I spoke honestly with her.
Seems selfish. Most people are.

I've started to catch myself before my spells. My eyes were opened when I found myself break down in front of Ruevir, I saw the fear in her eyes when she listened to me. When the flood of thoughts come forward, I start to feel panic and fear, I rant and question things around me, where my work is. I see shadows from the corner of my eye and feel as if someone is staring over my shoulder.
It's happened three more times since that evening. Thankfully no one has been around those times. They are short and I can regain my senses faster and return to my work. Things have been quiet and progress has been made, if only a small one.
