Log 4: Entry 4

Patient: Human, male, adult
Symptoms: Head injury
Treatment: Stitches
Meeting: Two weeks

A man was brought to the Soothery early morning after having suffered a head injury. While fixing the roof before winter, the man slipped and fell. He struck his head, but the injury is minor. The cut has been stitched and the man sent home. Suffering some head trauma, I've asked the family to bring him into my care should he show signs of nausea, light headedness or blurred vision.

Patient: Human, female, child
Symptoms: Tooth ache
Treatment: Garlic juice and saltwater rinse. (Possible removal)
Meeting: One week. Earlier if needed.

A mother brought her child in for examination after the girl chipped a tooth. There's swelling in the gums and possible infection. I'm told she fell a few days prior. Garlic juice has been given for her to take and have I suggested that the girl's mouth is rinsed with saltwater. I've asked the mother to bring the child in again in a week's time. If the situation has only grown worse, the tooth may have to be removed.

    * Lesson for Ruevir

-

Miss Sol has been staying with me for the past couple of days and nights, she isn't prepared to return and be alone yet. The work has helped her mind settle down and she may be able to return soon.
Ruevir is slowly settling in and continues her studies. I've spoken with her about taking the path towards becoming a barber, she appears excited for it and feels able to do so. I feel content to know that I've given her a purpose, that I was able to show patience when everyone else appears to have given up on her. I've witnessed examples of these and from my observations, this is all a game to her. One that she wins with ease.

    * Pay a visit to town, speak with the tailor
    * Buy miss Sol new work- and daily wear clothing
    * Buy Ruevir work clothes/mask
    * Visit the local market
    * Talk with the Undertaker

I've not heard from Remdir. He might still be displeased with me after my rude visit. I still need that pot.

    * Stop by the smithy
    * Bring a gift?

Mister Fiontann seems to have interest in hosting another tournament, this time with weapons. I've accepted the job he's offered, but I'm still concerned about this. If I heard right, he said that if a person didn't know how to use a blade, they should not enter. While this is true, he fails to realize that even a master swordsman can make a mistake and slip. It only takes a foot to be brought down wrong, on wet grass or otherwise, to send a weapon where it was not meant to go. It can result in serious injury or even death.
I shall have to try and reasons with him, convince him that the use of training swords and proper protection gear shall have to be used, if he's to go through with this. I've little interest of seeing a skull broken or a vital vein cut because of mishap, which can happen to anyone. Men are cocky, this I know well. They forget that accidents happen every day, whether it be fixing a roof or sparring with a friend. I've seen, and treated, enough to know this.

I've still not managed to sleep a full night, but I feel my mind slowly organizing itself again. There's still much to work through. I continue to get up in the night to write that letter and it irritates me. It doesn't matter what I write, it will not be sent, and still I need it to be right. I don't know what I'll do once I've managed to write it and be satisfied by what it says.

    * Buy a meat for testing
    * Begin to rearrange the infirmary
    * Hire help to fix the outside of the house before winter?
