Log 1: Entry 16

Patient: Hobbit, female, age unknown
Symptoms: Cold, sore throat and stuffed nose
Treatment: Shot of whiskey in the morning and evenings, bone broth, elderberry syrup, salt-water.
Meeting: In a week, should symptoms continue.

Miss Gustine, a female hobbit, came in the evening with mister Twofoot. She has been suffering a cold for a week now. The shots of whiskey should burn the phlegm and the elderberry syrup will cool her throat. Salt-water was bought to clear her nostrils. Suggested bed-rest and to drink bone broth.

It was a busy day.
Misses Gertiey Dumpling visited to inquire about the work. After tasting the bread she brought and hearing of her previous experience, I've decided to hire her. I'll need to change the barber room into a kitchen instead. If funding allows, I might seek a smaller housing for the barber work. Next time I'm able to visit the town, I'll have to see if I can make deals with the vendors for a cheaper price on ingredients.

A letter arrived with the new cook, one from miss Jackilyn. It appears she has decided to travel for a few days. I'm oddly conflicted.
Miss Silver and I have spoken on it. She was aware that miss Jackilyn had planned to travel and her reason is to give me space from her. Knowing she's taking the road that the company took to chase the storm, I find myself with fear for her safety. Will she become my next patient? Enter here broken and beaten, or worse?
I debate whether it was better or
worse that I got the letter. If I hadn't, I might not have noticed her gone and I'd be spared this fear.

Mister Bíld continues his work and is learning fast. Now that he's done what research he could on the body, I'll prepare it and take it to the undertaker to be buried. Mister Bíld will be notified the day so that he may attend.

Mister Maddoc, a dwarf, visited the infirmary to inquire about work. He seeks to further his knowledge and, by his own words, already has about a hundred years of experience. I think I'll end up learning more from him than anything else. It seems he'll be able to take the later part of the day when I'm otherwise occupied with my research.
I've shown him the sketch of the wheeled chair that mister Bíld made mention of and drew up. He was familiar with this design. If this works and mister Toremund is able to build this, miss Silver will be able to move around more and even go outside, despite her injury.

Mister Zeylheim arrived earlier than usual and had a chance to meet both miss Silver and mister Bíld. They appeared to get along well. His tea-making has improved and his mannerism is professional. I'll hope that he continues to get along well with those that come here, patients or staff.
I found him later in the Crow's Claw up the street. I thought he'd gone home for his meal but appears that he may have made plans with miss Rushwood. It's good to see, as he seems to have taken a liking for the woman. I can only hope that she won't keep him too distracted.

There's still the matter of mister Rue. When I returned with dinner, he had arrived. Mister Bíld was kind enough to tend to him and keep him at ease. I prepared more of the remedy and had mister Bíld watch so that he'll know how to make it himself should the man arrive while I am otherwise occupied.
It was during this time that miss Gustine and mister Twofoot arrived. While I attended to them, mister Bíld finished the remedy and prepared it. I don't know the details of their interaction, but mister Rue became irritated and loud.
I managed to talk him down, if only a little. He'll have enough of the remedy to last him for two days. In that time, I'll need to try and find more answers.
